Overview

Brunhilde is the primary protagonist of Record of Ragnarok and the eldest of the thirteen Valkyrie sisters. Being a demigod who once fell to human status, she maintains a deep connection with humanity. When the gods unanimously vote to eradicate mankind, she boldly intervenes by proposing Ragnarok—a thirteen-match tournament between gods and human champions—to grant humanity a chance at survival, acting as the story's narrator and guide.

Appearance

Brunhilde is a beautiful woman with exceptionally long black hair and green eyes. She wears a winged hair ornament and formal attire. While maintaining a dignified posture, her facial features dramatically distort into exaggerated expressions whenever she becomes enraged or hatches ruthless schemes.

Personality

Intelligent and steadfast, Brunhilde speaks provocatively to the gods without fear. Though she presents a cold, ruthless demeanor—willing to send her own sisters to their deaths and spouting extreme vitriol toward divine beings—she internally harbors deep sorrow for the fallen. Under intense stress, she compulsively binge-eats unpleasant Salmiakki pies in an unrefined manner.

Abilities

Brunhilde possesses extensive knowledge of divine history and the intricate abilities of historical human champions. She leverages this intellect to strategically select the most effective human fighters against divine opponents, guiding her youngest sister Göll through the nuances of each matchup.

Background

Having formerly been cast down from knighthood to human status, Brunhilde possesses unique insight into both realms. During the council where the gods decreed humanity's end, she manipulated their pride into accepting Ragnarok. To protect mankind, she gathers history's greatest warriors and orchestrates the battles by bonding her sisters with the human champions.

Relationships

As the eldest of the thirteen Valkyries, she keeps her youngest sister Göll by her side while sending sisters like Randgriz, Reginleif, Hrist, Hlokk, and Thrud into battle. She selects human fighters including Lu Bu, Adam, Sasaki Kojiro, and Jack the Ripper. She holds a close, sibling-like affection for Heracles, openly derides Zeus, and is romantically linked to Siegfried.

Trivia

Her abrupt face-warping expressions have become a well-known trademark among readers. The Salmiakki pie she consumes during high-stress moments references a notoriously strong salty liquorice treat from Nordic culture.
