Overview
Buriburizaemon is a pig-like savior hero created by Shinnosuke Nohara in the Crayon Shin-chan franchise. Serving as an iconic yet untrustworthy sidekick to the protagonist in spin-offs and fictional stories, he is defined by his mercenary attitude and shameless self-preservation despite claiming to be a hero.
Appearance
He has the sleek body of a bipedal pig, featured with eyes and nostrils that are asymmetrical in size. He wears purple bottom garments resembling spats. At his waist, he carries an item resembling a katana, though the blade is actually a piece of traditional long candy that he occasionally licks.
Personality
Despite calling himself a savior, he openly aligns with whoever holds power and will betray his allies the instant danger emerges. When summoned for help, he demands astronomical rescue fees while accommodating payment plans or credit cards. He is intensely narcissistic, fond of women, and convinced of his own cosmetic perfection, yet he flies into a rage if called out on his cowardice.
Abilities
He claims to possess unmatched strength in unarmed hand-to-hand combat. His sidearm was originally a rechargeable magical blade capable of creating objects or transforming, but after its battery depleted—requiring one million years to recharge—he substituted the blade with a piece of long candy given by a young pig. In fight scenarios, he sometimes utilizes an uncleaned rear strike, and he can be summoned into reality using designated magic artifacts.
Background
Originating as a drawing created by Shinnosuke Nohara, Buriburizaemon appears in various in-universe stories and spin-offs such as The Adventures of Buriburizaemon. Featured across period dramas, sci-fi adventures, and fairy-tale parodies, he consistently complicates conflicts before unintentionally aiding in their resolution. He also frequently appears in feature films as a summoned ally or central plot element.
Relationships
He shares a partnership with his creator, Shinnosuke Nohara, with both fully aware of each other's selfish traits and greedy tendencies. He interacts with Misae Nohara and Hiroshi Nohara across alternate storylines, often ending up reprimanded or exploited by the family. Spin-off lore also reveals that he is the father of triplet children named Pu, Bu, and Su.
Trivia
Following the sudden passing of original voice actor Kaneto Shiozawa, creator Yoshito Usui and the animation staff kept the role uncast for 16 years out of respect. Dialogue was restored for the character in 2016 when Hiroshi Kamiya was cast as the successor. Additionally, he has featured in official crossover episodes with franchises such as Hello Kitty and Wan-Dafuru Precure!.
