Charlie Morningstar

Overview

Charlie Morningstar is the main protagonist of the animated series Hazbin Hotel. As the Princess of Hell and successor to the throne, she is the hellborn daughter of King Lucifer and Queen Lilith. Driven by a desire to protect her subjects from annual exterminations by angels, she establishes the Hazbin Hotel (originally the Happy Hotel) to redeem sinning demons and help them enter Heaven. Enthusiastic and prone to breaking into song, she works tirelessly to improve Hell's society despite facing widespread skepticism and ridicule.

Appearance

Charlie has slightly wavy long blonde hair, pale skin, rosy red cheeks, and long eyelashes with yellow sclera that glow in the dark. She has a black nose and stands at 182 cm tall. Her standard attire consists of a white shirt paired with a black bowtie, black suspenders, and a red tuxedo jacket, though she also wore a dress in the pilot episode. When transforming into her full demon form, she sprouts reddish-black horns and her eyes turn red.

Personality

Extremely kind-hearted for a demon, Charlie genuinely cares for the well-being of Hell's inhabitants and maintains a relentlessly cheerful, optimistic outlook. She loves musicals and frequently expresses her heightened emotions through song. While warm and overly friendly even to strangers, her impulsive nature can sometimes lead to hasty actions that exacerbate problems. Though generally gentle and conflict-averse, she possesses a fierce temper when her friends are insulted, occasionally resorting to foul language and aggressive demonic behavior.

Abilities

As high-ranking demon royalty, Charlie possesses potent magic, including the ability to transform into a form with immense strength capable of blocking heavy strikes with enlarged demonic arms. She commands powerful pyrokinesis, summoning flames from the ground or swirling infernal tornadoes in her true demonic state. In combat, she can summon a pitchfork wrapped with a golden snake and topped with a red apple, alongside a decorative shield featuring a red apple and a golden six-winged serpent.

Background

Born to Lucifer and Lilith, Charlie grew up as the princess of Hell. To halt the annual massacres carried out by angels, she launched a project to rehabilitate sinners at her hotel. After a disastrous broadcast pitch caught the attention of the powerful Radio Demon Alastor, he joined her as a business partner. Overcoming severe opposition from the angelic commander Adam, political tension with Heaven, and personal revelations regarding her partner Vaggie, Charlie led her allies to defend and eventually rebuild the hotel into a thriving refuge.

Relationships

Vaggie is Charlie's devoted girlfriend and dedicated partner in running the hotel. While her relationship with her father, Lucifer Morningstar, was initially strained, the two rebuilt their loving bond after he witnessed her dedication. Alastor acts as the hotel's business partner, though his ulterior motives remain a point of intrigue. Charlie shows deep compassion toward residents like Angel Dust and Sir Pentious, supporting their redemption, and shares a supportive bond with the high angel Emily.

Trivia

Charlie inherited her exceptional singing voice from her mother, Lilith. The video for her signature song, "INSIDE OF EVERY DEMON IS A RAINBOW," released on YouTube, has garnered over 20 million views. Within the fan community, her romantic pairing with Vaggie is widely referred to by the portmanteau "Chaggie."
