Marin Kitagawa

Overview

Marin Kitagawa is the main heroine of the manga series My Dress-Up Darling. A first-year high school student and popular reader model, she leads a bright and vibrant social life. Beneath her stylish appearance lies a devoted otaku who loves anime, manga, and games, driving her to pursue cosplay as her ultimate expression of affection for her favorite characters.

Appearance

Marin features long blonde hair with a pinkish-red gradient toward the ends and swept bangs. While her natural eyes are dark brown, she regularly wears pink or red color contacts. Standing 164 cm tall, she decorates herself with a black lace choker, necklaces, bracelets, rings, styled nails, and multiple ear piercings, including an industrial piercing. Her school uniform consists of a tied white collared dress shirt, a necktie, a blue plaid pleated miniskirt, black socks, and brown loafers. She also wears a black floral side-tie bikini.

Personality

Marin is exceptionally cheerful, transparent, and welcoming toward everyone. She proudly embraces her personal hobbies while displaying absolute respect for the passions of others, reacting strongly against anyone who mocks what people love. Highly empathetic, she is easily moved to tears by emotional stories. While her action-oriented mindset drives her to pursue her goals enthusiastically, her impatience and careless habits often lead to humorous missteps and impulsive purchases.

Abilities

Marin excels as a reader model, leveraging her physical features and poise to present visually striking figures. Her commitment to cosplay is remarkable, demonstrating high adaptability as a photographic subject and willingness to shave her eyebrows for accuracy. However, she lacks fine manual dexterity, proving clumsy with sewing and unable to apply false eyelashes without assistance.

Background

Having lost her mother at a young age, Marin lives largely independently due to her father's job relocation. After discovering that her classmate Wakana Gojo possesses craftsmanship in sewing, she asks him to create her cosplay costumes. As they collaborate on various outfits and attend events together, their bond grows into mutual love, eventually leading to their marriage and starting a family.

Relationships

Wakana Gojo begins as her costume maker and close confidant, eventually becoming her romantic partner and husband. Through her cosplay activities, she forms strong friendships with Sajuna Inui and Shinju Inui, while also hanging out with high school friends like Nowa Sugaya. She shares a warm relationship with her father, Masumi, who supports her modeling career while keeping her careless habits in check.

Trivia

Marin once purchased a high-end mirrorless camera on the spot simply because its product model matched her own initials. In real-world promotions, she featured in a crossover figure release with Hololive VTuber Houshou Marine, where the two exchanged their iconic signature outfits.
