Nakano Itsuki

Overview

Nakano Itsuki is one of the main heroines of the manga series The Quintessential Quintuplets (Go-toubun no Hanayome) created by Negi Haruba, as well as its anime, game, and stage adaptations. She is the fifth and youngest of the Nakano quintuplets. Earnest and hardworking yet somewhat clumsy, she aspires to become a teacher like her late mother. After meeting Uesugi Fuutarou at the start of the story, she develops a complex working relationship and bond with him through his tutoring. She is famous for her huge appetite and often serves as a key representative face of the franchise.

Appearance

Itsuki has long, wavy red hair with an ahoge on top, a section of front hair extending backward, and star-shaped hair ornaments on both sides of her bangs. She has blue eyes. Her casual clothes frequently combine open-shoulder tops with long skirts. For her school uniform, she wears a red sweater vest over a white shirt, paired with a pleated skirt that is the longest among the sisters, alongside white knee-high socks. When studying, she puts on red, square-framed glasses, which change to an under-rim style in her adult life.

Personality

Itsuki is earnest, polite, and mature, speaking in respectful register to almost everyone. She possesses a strong drive to learn and self-study, though she is somewhat clumsy and struggles to translate her efforts into academic results. While she can be stubborn and slow to forgive perceived disrespect, she is naturally thoughtful and considerate toward others. She has a massive appetite and is frequently associated with eating. Despite her serious outer demeanor, she is easily terrified of ghosts, terrible at lying, and gets extremely nervous whenever she attempts to disguise herself as her sisters.

Abilities

Among standard academic subjects, Itsuki excels most at science. Her daily routines include performing abdominal exercises and yoga, and she lists imitating her sisters as a personal skill, though her nervous temperament usually gives her away when impersonating them in critical situations. She also operates secretly as a food reviewer under the pen name M.A.Y. As an adult, she holds a driver's license and achieves strong conversational English skills.

Background

Born as the youngest of the quintuplets—actually born past midnight on the following day—Itsuki was raised alongside her sisters by their single mother after their biological father left. Following her mother's death from illness, Itsuki resolved to take on her mother's role for the family. At her new high school, she encountered Uesugi Fuutarou and initially refused his tutoring due to his blunt remarks, but gradually grew to trust him as he dedicated himself to helping the sisters. Inspired by her mother's legacy and her meeting with a former student of her mother, she successfully pursued her dream of becoming a schoolteacher.

Relationships

Although she initially clashed with Uesugi Fuutarou, Itsuki eventually built a deep bond of mutual trust and solid friendship with him. She has a strong soft spot for his younger sister, Uesugi Raiha, whose requests she can rarely refuse. Among her sisters—Nakano Ichika, Nakano Nino, Nakano Miku, and Nakano Yotsuba—she is particularly close with Nino and Yotsuba, frequently bickering with Nino yet caring for her deeply. She holds profound respect for her late mother, Nakano Rena, and understands the quiet support of her stepfather, Nakano Maruo.

Trivia

Her favorite foods include meat buns, while her favorite drinks are curry and coffee. She enjoys kangaroos, visiting pet shops, reading travel guidebooks, watching wide show TV programs, and viewing emotional movies featuring dogs. Itsuki often serves as the face of official promotional materials and game icons across the media franchise, and she is commonly assigned the fire element in crossover event appearances.
