Overview

Arnes is a character featured in the spin-off series An Explosion on This Wonderful World!. She is a high-ranking demon who serves the evil god Wolbach and acts as an antagonist toward the protagonist Megumin.

Appearance

Arnes has long red hair, sharp pointy ears, and beast-like yellow eyes. Her demonic features include horns on her head, wings on her back, and a tail. She possesses a voluptuous build. When traveling among humans, she uses a hood to conceal her distinctive horns and yellow eyes.

Personality

Although Arnes adopts an arrogant and pushy attitude toward humans, she remains capable of reasonable dialogue. However, her devotion to her master Wolbach is absolute; whenever Wolbach is involved, she quickly loses her composure and becomes reckless in pursuing her objectives.

Abilities

Classified as a high-ranking demon, Arnes functions under a stock-based life system typical of demons in her world. Even if her physical body is completely annihilated by powerful magic, she does not permanently perish and is able to revive elsewhere.

Background

Arnes traveled for many years in search of her missing master, Wolbach. Upon discovering that Megumin's familiar, Chomusuke, was actually a split half of Wolbach, she repeatedly targeted Megumin to reclaim the creature. Her attempts were constantly foiled by the eccentric residents of the Crimson Demon Village and Zesta. During her fourth attempt, she was paralyzed with terror by the overwhelming magic aura of Aqua, who had just descended to the mortal realm with Kazuma, leaving her wide open to be blasted away by Megumin's Explosion magic.

Relationships

Arnes harbors deep loyalty toward her master, Wolbach. Her efforts to retrieve Chomusuke, the sealed half of Wolbach, bring her into direct conflict with Megumin and Yunyun. Throughout her repeated ambushes, she is repeatedly thwarted by figures such as Zesta, and her final defeat comes after being paralyzed by the divine pressure of Aqua, allowing Megumin to strike.

Trivia

Her name is believed to be derived from the real-world martial artist Ernesto Hoost.
