Gen Narumi

Overview

Gen Narumi is a character in Kaiju No. 8 and serves as the Captain of the First Division of the Anti-Kaiju Defense Force. Known as Japan's strongest combatant against Kaiju, he possesses exceptional innate talent for battle. In contrast to his supreme combat capabilities, his personal life and demeanor are notoriously flawed, though he maintains a strict results-oriented policy for his division.

Appearance

Gen Narumi has short, two-tone hair with the inner section of his front bangs dyed. He has red eyes, which turn green with pupils shifting from crosses to X-shapes when using his specialized Kaiju weapon's full capability. His attire includes a shirt, jacket, black gloves, a gas mask, and loose, jersey-like gear that forms part of his weapon suit, alongside specialized contact lenses.

Personality

Gen is notoriously lazy with routine duties, spending his free time absorbed in video games, ego-searching, and impulsive shopping. Highly self-centered with a messy room, he frequently attempts to hide his true motives behind flimsy excuses, concealing the quiet effort he puts in behind the scenes. Despite his immature arguments and ego, he maintains an absolute results-driven stance.

Abilities

He wields the GS-3305 bayonet, utilizing Troops-style Bayonet Arts that combine melee slashes with gunfire. Through the Rt-0001 contact lenses derived from Kaiju No. 1, he visualizes neural signals and predicts future actions by tracking electrons, heat, and terrain. Wearing Numbers Weapon 1 boosts his combat capabilities, though extreme future prediction severely strains his nervous system. He also possesses a unique constitution adapted to Kaiju cells.

Background

After losing his parents to a Kaiju disaster, Gen grew up in an orphanage before encountering the Defense Force during another attack. Recruited by Isao Shinomiya due to his unique compatibility with Kaiju cells, he passed the entrance exam. Although his solitary behavior and insubordination initially almost got him discharged, his combat performance earned him a permanent place in the First Division.

Relationships

He was recruited into the Defense Force by Isao Shinomiya. As Captain of the First Division, he leads subordinates such as Eiji Hasegawa and Rin Shinonome, while also mentoring Kikoru Shinomiya. He views Mina Ashiro of the Third Division as a major rival and shares a competitive dynamic regarding combat skill with Soshiro Hoshina.

Trivia

His personal hobbies include building plastic models, with a 1/100 scale model appearing in the story. Within the First Division, many officers respect him to the extent of copying his dyed hair style.
