Mina Ashiro is one of the main heroines in Kaiju No. 8. Serving as the Captain of the Third Division of the Japan Defense Force, she is the childhood friend of the protagonist Kafka Hibino. Despite being only 27 years old, she has successfully neutralized hundreds of giant monsters, earning an immense level of popularity and respect across the nation. As an extraordinary marksman specializing in anti-kaiju artillery, her overwhelming firepower serves as a core pillar of the Defense Force's combat strategy.

Mina has long black hair that she frequently styles into a high ponytail or two-side-up, though she previously wore it in a short bob. A distinct feature of her face is a mole located under each eye. During military operations, she dons the standard Defense Force suit along with specialized armor, hair accessories, and clips. She is also accompanied on the battlefield by a large white tiger named Bakko, which she rides as a mount.

Background

During her childhood, Mina's hometown was devastated by a kaiju attack, leading to the painful loss of her family cat. In the aftermath of the tragedy, she made a pact with her childhood friend Kafka Hibino to eradicate every kaiju together. Fulfilling her promise, she joined the Defense Force, where her natural talent for heavy marksmanship allowed her to swiftly rise through the ranks to become Captain of the Third Division at a young age.
