Overview
Hoshino Ruby is one of the main protagonists of Oshi no Ko. Born as the twin sister of Hoshino Aquamarine to the legendary idol Hoshino Ai, she is the reincarnation of Tendouji Sarina, an idol enthusiast who passed away from a terminal illness at age twelve. Retaining her past memories, she enters the entertainment industry under Ichigo Productions, reforming her mother's former group, B-Komachi, to follow her dream of becoming an idol.
Appearance
Ruby is a beautiful girl with long blonde hair styled with a single side ponytail, sidelocks, and bangs falling between her eyes. She has pink eyes featuring a distinctive six-pointed star-shaped pupil in her left eye, which turns dark or fades depending on her emotional state. Her natural features closely resemble her mother. Her wardrobe includes outfits with bowties and pink bows, though her choice in dance practice clothing is notoriously poor.
Personality
Ruby is cheerful, free-spirited, and straightforward, though sometimes naive and airheaded compared to her analytical brother. When thinking too hard, she unconsciously shifts into speaking in a cat-like manner. Unlike her mother's philosophy that lies are a form of love, Ruby deeply despises falsehoods and struggles to lie herself. Though blunt and sharp-tongued at times, her past experiences make her empathetic and capable of offering inspiring encouragement to her peers.
Abilities
Possessing a striking visual presence and natural idol charisma, Ruby demonstrates outstanding dancing skill once freed from her past physical limitations. While her singing ability is notably poor, she makes up for it with sharp intuition, adaptability, and the capacity to handle public appearances effectively. She also exhibits natural talent in acting, showing raw potential that catches the attention of industry professionals.
Background
In her previous life as Sarina, she developed a deep bond with her physician, Gorou Amemiya, while sharing a mutual passion for the idol Ai before succumbing to her illness. Reborn as Ai's daughter, she spent her childhood aspiring to stand on stage. Following her mother's tragic passing, she pushes forward to pursue her dream, reviving the idol department at Ichigo Productions alongside her new group members to climb the ranks of the show business world.
Relationships
Ruby adores her mother, Hoshino Ai, as both a parent and her ultimate idol. She shares a close, mutually protective bond with her twin brother, Hoshino Aquamarine, despite frequent bickering and being unaware of their original past identities. Within the reformed B-Komachi, she maintains strong bonds with Arima Kana and MEM-cho. She receives guidance from her adoptive mother Saito Miyako and former agency president Saito Ichigo, while associating with classmates Kotobuki Minami and Shiranui Frill.
Trivia
Her designated member color in B-Komachi is red. Due to her past life spent bedridden, she possesses a heightened awareness of time, driving her to tackle every challenge with intense enthusiasm. During her infancy in her second life, she frequently used her mother's phone late at night to fiercely argue with online critics.
