Appearance
Kamajii is an elderly man with a bald head, a prominent mustache and beard, and dark sunglasses. He wears traditional Japanese clothing along with earrings. His most distinctive physical feature is his spider-like anatomy, consisting of two legs and six long, extendable arms.
Personality
Though he initially comes across as stern, grumpy, and intimidating, Kamajii is deeply compassionate and caring. Beneath his rough exterior lies a gentle, grandfatherly disposition, demonstrated by his willingness to protect Chihiro and look out for those in need.
Abilities
Kamajii utilizes his six extendable arms to simultaneously operate the boiler room, efficiently reaching across vast wall-mounted cabinets to select and grind medicinal herbs. His multi-limbed physiology allows him to prepare custom bath brews while continuously stoking the furnace.
Background
Kamajii lives and works in the boiler room beneath Aburaya, directing soot sprites to feed coal into the furnace. When Chihiro enters the spirit realm, he shelters her by pretending she is his granddaughter and arranges for her to seek employment from Yubaba. Later, he selflessly provides Chihiro with a forty-year-old train ticket to aid her journey to help Haku.
Relationships
Kamajii serves as a protective mentor to Ogino Chihiro, aiding her transition into the bathhouse. He maintains a working relationship with Lin, convincing her to assist Chihiro, and shows paternal concern for Haku. He also oversees the soot sprites who assist him in the boiler room.
Trivia
