Appearance
Kyoukai is a beautiful young woman with long black hair and green eyes. She initially dresses in distinctive tribal attire paired with a headband, characterized by long, wide sleeves, and carries her beloved sword, Ryokusui, at her waist. Later in her military career, her attire evolves to include a customized set of armor, which begins development around the Han campaign and is fully completed during the Zhao campaign.
Personality
Kyoukai maintains a quiet, calm, and stoic demeanor, rarely speaking more than necessary. While initially emotionally closed off due to her singular focus on revenge, her experiences within the Hi Shin Unit lead her to open her heart and view the unit as her true home. She develops unwavering loyalty and romantic affection for Shin, willing to risk everything to protect him. In contrast to her sharp lethal focus on the battlefield, her daily life reveals a clumsy side, characterized by a massive appetite and disorderly sleeping habits.

Kyoukai masters the Priestess Dance, a secretive martial technique of the Chi You clan that utilizes deep breathing to unlock superhuman physical limits. Diving deeper into her breath grants her staggering speed and precision with her sword, Ryokusui. However, this power consumes immense stamina, leaving her temporarily incapacitated once her breath expires. Beyond her martial dominance, she possesses extraordinary strategic insight, serving as the tactical planner for the Hi Shin Unit in its early days and designing brilliant tactics such as deploying a phantom army of one hundred thousand soldiers.
Background
Raised in the village of the Chi You, Kyoukai lost her beloved sister-figure, Kyou Shou, to a treacherous ritual, prompting her to leave her home on a quest for revenge. Posing as a soldier to gather information, she joined the battle of Dakan Plains in Taku Kei's squad, where she met Shin. After participating in various campaigns and serving as the vice commander of the Hi Shin Unit, she eventually tracked down the current Chi You, Yuu Ren, in Zhao. Winning a grueling battle, she avenged Kyou Shou and chose not to return to her village. Rejoining the Hi Shin Unit to pursue her new goal of becoming a Great General alongside Shin, she rose through the military ranks to become a general.
Relationships
Kyoukai shares a deep emotional bond and mutual trust with Shin, whom she vows to support at all costs, even offering her own life force to save him. Ka Ryou Ten is one of the few who learned early on of Kyoukai's true gender, forming a warm comradeship within the unit. Her deceased sister-figure, Kyou Shou, served as her primary motivation during her pursuit of vengeance, while Kyou Mei aided her in locating and disposing of Yuu Ren's remains. Although she initially encountered King Ying Zheng as a target during an assassination mission, he came to respect her exceptional capabilities on the battlefield.
Trivia
In actual history, Kyoukai (Qiang Lei) was a male general who served King Ying Zheng of Qin and aided Wang Jian in conquering the Zhao capital of Handan. The author of Kingdom developed the character as a woman based on the premise that historical records like the Records of the Grand Historian did not explicitly state the figure's gender. Within the series, her intense battlefield presence contrasts humorously with her unrefined habits, such as her massive appetite and terrible sleeping posture. She also famously baffled her comrades early on by announcing a desire to bear Shin's child without fully understanding how reproduction worked.
