Overview

A prominent character in Kingdom, Ou Sen is a Great General of the state of Qin and the current head of the main branch of the prestigious Ou family. Formerly serving as a vice commander under Grand General Mou Gou, he later earned appointment as the Third General of Qin's revived Six Great Generals. Operating under the principle of never entering a battle he cannot win, he leads with profound strategic intellect and an intimidating presence. Despite his unmatched military genius, his deep-seated personal ambitions to claim a kingship of his own make him a figure viewed with extreme caution by his peers and superiors alike.

Appearance

Ou Sen wears heavy body armor adorned with an intimidating, terrifying facial motif, paired with a helmet featuring an eye-mask visor that entirely conceals the upper portion of his face. Throughout the story, his face is never revealed uncovered, with official material noting that he removes his helmet only when sleeping.

Personality

Ou Sen possesses a cold, unreadable, and deeply pragmatic temperament. Completely detached from emotion, he prioritizes personal survival and overarching strategic outcomes above all else, at times remaining indifferent even to the peril of friendly commanders. Driven by a desire to expand his own domain, he frequently attempts to recruit capable enemy officers into his personal army. Conversely, he shows brutal disregard toward foreign troops he has not personally subjugated. His aura is deeply intimidating, inspiring dread in both foes and allies alike.

Abilities

Ou Sen is a master of defensive warfare, specializing in field fortification construction and psychological warfare. He excels at reading several moves ahead of opponents and orchestrating complex mind games. His strategic adaptability allows him to abandon established blueprints in real time to engineer large-scale supply-deprivation tactics, such as manipulating war refugees and executing targeted food depot burnings. Furthermore, he possesses the capability to assess defeated enemy commanders and successfully absorb them into his own army structure.

Background

Although his genius was acknowledged by strategist Ko Shou during King Sho's era, Ou Sen was kept at a distance due to fears of his personal ambitions. He gained prominence after being recruited as Mou Gou's vice general alongside Kan Ki. During the Sanyo campaign, his fortification tactics provided a crucial defensive foundation against Lian Po. In the Coalition Army war, he saved Kankoku Pass by completely outwitting the Yan general Ordo through psychological maneuvers. Appointed supreme commander for the Gyou invasion, he altered the campaign strategy on the spot to orchestrate an intricate siege that forced Zhao's surrender, leading to his appointment as the Third General of Qin's revived Six Great Generals. Despite subsequent strategic losses against Li Mu at Hika and Hango, he quickly set about rebuilding his military power.

Relationships

Ou Sen shares a cold, severely distant relationship with his eldest son, Ou Hon, speaking to him only on rare occasions. He is related to Ou Ki, who hailed from a branch lineage while Ou Sen leads the main branch of the Ou family. As a vice commander under Mou Gou, he operated alongside Kan Ki, whose aggressive unpredictability contrasted sharply with Ou Sen's methodical defense. In grand campaigns, he faces Zhao's supreme strategist Li Mu as his primary rival, while previously outmaneuvering Yan's general Ordo during the Coalition Army invasion.

Trivia

Throughout the manga, Ou Sen is never depicted without his signature helmet and armor, leaving his true facial features entirely unrevealed in the narrative. His practice of assessing captured opposing officers and inviting them to join his forces sets him apart from other Qin commanders who typically execute prisoners of war.
