Overview

Lady Lihua is one of the four High Consorts of the Emperor in 'The Apothecary Diaries', holding the title of Wise Consort (Kenhi) and residing in the Crystal Palace. Hailing from a distinguished family related to the imperial line, she possesses exceptional intellect and beauty. Rather than seeking political power, she is genuinely devoted to the Emperor himself, standing out for her dignified air alongside Lady Gyokuyou.

Appearance

Lihua is a beauty characterized by sharp, slit eyes and long black hair, possessing a very full bust. Her attire and ornamental accessories are primarily designed around shades of blue and violet, aligning with the Wood element.

Personality

Lihua possesses noble dignity and self-respect without being arrogant, exhibitng the refined character expected of high royalty. She shows compassion to those of lower standing and even toward servants who have strayed. Her devotion to the Emperor is profound, loving him as a person rather than desiring political influence as the mother of the nation. Though driven to despair during periods of deep distress, she is fundamentally thoughtful, gracious, and deeply principled.

Abilities

Lihua is well-versed in the high intellect, refined manners, and cultural education required of an imperial consort. Additionally, she successfully learned secret bedchamber techniques taught by Maomao, effectively retaining the Emperor's favor.

Background

Born into a prominent household related to the imperial family, Lihua was raised as a prime candidate for the inner court. Driven by her deep affection for the Emperor, she was appointed as the Wise Consort. Though she gave birth to an imperial son, both she and the infant fell gravely ill due to lead poisoning from face powder, leading to the child's death. Misguided care from her ignorant maids worsened her condition until Maomao intervened, identified the toxin, and nursed her back to health with proper remedies and nutrition. She later gave birth to a second son and remains the primary High Consort residing in the inner court as others departed.

Relationships

Lihua holds deep trust and gratitude toward Maomao for saving her life, presenting her with a rose quartz hairpin at a garden party to offer her protection. She shares a quiet rivalry with Lady Gyokuyou, though both maintain a respectful distance to avoid conflict. Her former head maid and cousin, Shen, harbored deep resentment toward her and attempted to cause a miscarriage, but Lihua showed leniency by merely banishing her instead of demanding execution. Above all, her heart belongs entirely to the Emperor.

Trivia

During the winter garden party, Lihua presented Maomao with a rose quartz hairpin, discreetly signaling her willingness to act as a patron while respecting Maomao's primary allegiance to Lady Gyokuyou. Later, she allowed Maomao to use the sauna facility built in the Crystal Palace to assist with cultivating blue roses.
