Overview

Mashimo Heisuke is a freelance assassin featured in the manga and anime series SAKAMOTO DAYS. Despite being an exceptionally talented sniper, his poor performance in basic combat and everyday tasks led to his dismissal from a previous organization. He initially targets the protagonist, Taro Sakamoto, to claim a massive bounty and earn recognition, but after his astonishing marksmanship earns Sakamoto's respect, he becomes an ally who frequently hangs around the Sakamoto Store.

Appearance

Heisuke is a young man characterized by his spiky black hair, a crosshair-shaped sniper mark on his cheek, and a bandage across the bridge of his nose. He is constantly accompanied by his pet bird, Piisuke, who measures 40 centimeters in length.

Personality

Heisuke is cheerful, loyal to his friends, and easily brought to tears. Highly naive and simple-minded, his thoughts manifest as childlike crayon drawings to mind readers. Due to his incompetence in skills outside of sniping, he suffers from low self-esteem, though he strongly values his companions. However, when faced with an enemy, he can ruthlessly detach himself and attack regardless of prior familiarity. He lives in a tent due to extreme poverty, recklessly spending the majority of his small budget on his pet while neglecting his own food expenses.

Abilities

Heisuke is a master sniper capable of hitting targets concealed in blind spots by calculating complex ricochet angles. His marksmanship is potent enough to surpass the legendary JCC shooting record previously held by Taro Sakamoto. In battle, he coordinates seamlessly with his pet bird Piisuke to perform aerial reconnaissance and tracking. Conversely, his close-quarters combat skills, such as knife proficiency, are below average.

Background

After being fired from an assassination syndicate due to his clumsiness, Heisuke set out to claim the bounty on Taro Sakamoto to build a reputation. He confronted Sakamoto's group during a survival game tournament, pushing them to their limits with his sniper skills before ultimately being defeated. Upon earning Sakamoto's praise as the formidable sniper he had ever faced, Heisuke dropped his hostile intentions and began visiting the Sakamoto Store for leftover meat buns, eventually fighting alongside them as a trusted ally.

Relationships

Heisuke shares an inseparable bond with his pet bird Piisuke, relying on him both in daily life and as a spotter during combat. Although he initially targeted Taro Sakamoto for the bounty, he developed a friendly relationship with him after being defeated and praised for his skills. He is also close friends with Shin Asakura, who often finds himself exasperated by Heisuke's overwhelming simplicity.

Trivia

His name and birthday of December 17 are believed to be derived from the real-life Finnish sniper Simo Häyhä. To accurately depict his rifle handling, author Yuto Suzuki purchased a model of the Mosin-Nagant rifle for reference while drawing him.
