Appearance
It takes the form of a spindly scarecrow assembled from rags, withered branches, and scrap metal. Its head is covered by a burlap sack containing glowing red eyes, and when its mouth opens, sharp teeth resembling a bear trap emerge through the fabric. Additional arms occasionally sprout from its body, and it wields a large scythe alongside a glowing lantern while housing an old cage filled with black birds within its torso.
Personality
Fiddlesticks harbors no human emotion or reasoned thought, acting solely on the drive to hunt and consume fear. It tears out the vocal cords of its victims to mimic their final screams, pleas, and incoherent phrases in a raspy, metallic voice. It psychological torments those it encounters by echoing words that target their deepest personal anxieties and past trauma.
Abilities
When attacking while unseen or disguised as an effigy, its abilities inflict fear upon enemies. Its passive replaces trinkets with effigies that provide vision, imitate movements to distract opponents, and reveal hidden wards at higher levels. Its abilities include Terrify, which deals magic damage and fears targets; Bountiful Harvest, which drains health from nearby foes to heal itself while delivering execute damage; Reap, a scythe sweep that slows enemies and silences those in its center; and Crowstorm, an ultimate that channels before blinking to a target area to inflict continuous area-of-effect damage with a murder of crows.
Background
Born from the first scream of terror in existence, Fiddlesticks is a primordial demon older than recorded history. For generations, tales of a terrifying scarecrow were circulated as bedtime stories across Runeterra, from Demacia to the Freljord. It returned to reality in the remote backlands of Demacia, destroying villages like Goldfoss and causing travelers and patrols to vanish. In earlier lore depictions, it was described as an entity spawned from a forbidden summoning ritual conducted by the Zaunite mage Estevan inside the Institute of War.
Relationships
In the game's world, the Aspect of Twilight, Zoe, stole a key belonging to Fiddlesticks. In earlier background lore, its presence was directly tied to the summoning ritual of the Zaunite rune mage Estevan.
Trivia
Its name, Fiddlesticks, comes from an English phrase meaning nonsense or foolishness, referencing its history as an empty myth used to scare children. A major overhaul transformed the character from a slightly comedic entity into a pure horror design. In its Surprise Party skin, its abilities feature party elements like sunflowers and balloons, and it shouts a birthday greeting upon channeling its ultimate skill.
