Ryze

Overview

Ryze is an archmage from the League of Legends universe and one of the most experienced magic users in Runeterra. Born in an ancient era, he carries the monumental burden of traversing the world to locate and seal away the World Runes—primordial artifacts of raw magic capable of causing catastrophic destruction if abused. Armed with immense arcane knowledge and unyielding determination, he functions almost as a living creature of pure magic.

Appearance

Ryze is a bald male with blue-purple skin and a facial beard. His body is covered in arcane tattoos resulting from thorn magic fused directly into his physical form. Strapped to his back is a massive, indestructible scroll inscribed with ancient spell symbols. His attire includes a hooded cloak, belt fasteners, and a single shoulder guard.

Personality

Ryze possesses an unwavering commitment to his self-imposed duty, prioritizing the preservation of the world above all else. He is deeply pragmatic and willing to make heart-wrenching sacrifices, such as leaving imperiled villagers behind or confronting corrupted companions. Constantly resisting the tempting power of the World Runes himself, he endures a deeply lonely and sorrowful existence.

Abilities

Ryze commands ancient thorn magic embedded in his tattoos alongside vast arcane knowledge. His magical damage scales with his bonus mana reserves, while his spell power further expands his maximum mana capabilities. In combat, he executes rapid combinations of spells such as Overload, Rune Prison, and Spell Flux to generate explosive arcane attacks and temporarily bind enemies.

Background

As a young apprentice under Tyrus of Helia, Ryze witnessed the tragic Rune Wars that annihilated his homeland. When Tyrus himself succumbed to the corrupting lure of two World Runes, Ryze was forced to kill his master in a desperate duel to protect the realm. Inheriting the tragic responsibility, he dedicated his prolonged life to scouring Runeterra for all remaining runes, storing them away from mortal touch.

Relationships

Ryze's tragic past involves killing his beloved mentor Tyrus after he succumbed to rune temptation, while his former pupil Brand ultimately betrayed him. He was also forced to slay his old friend Yag in the Freljord when Yag refused to relinquish a rune. Over his journeys, he has cooperated with figures like Miss Fortune, Sona, and Nasus, while opposing entities like Trundle.

Trivia

The exact nature and contents of the massive scroll Ryze bears remain known only to him, and he treats it as a dangerous object that must be personally safeguarded. Due to his rapid skill sequence gameplay and physical appearance, he has acquired community nicknames such as the Spell Machine Gun.
