Fu Hua

Overview

Fu Hua is a major character in miHoYo's Honkai Impact 3rd and Honkai Gakuen series. At St. Freya Academy, she serves as an exceptional A-rank Valkyrie and the disciplined class monitor of Kiana's class. In truth, she is Hua, the 12th of the Thirteen Flame-Chasers from the Previous Era's anti-Honkai organization Moth Cleaving Into Flames, who protected the land of Shenzhou for millennia under the title of the Immortal Phoenix Jingwei.

Appearance

Fu Hua has long grey hair and blue or red eyes. She frequently wears red-framed glasses, which serve as a communication device and a battlesuit interface. She has a slender build. Her attire varies across her roles, ranging from a modified Chinese-style St. Freya Academy uniform, London street clothing, and a butler outfit to advanced battlesuits like Shadow Knight, her ancient Immortal garb Azure Empyrea, and her active Honkai reaction form Fenghuang of Vicissitude.

Personality

Fu Hua is remarkably serious, hardworking, and disciplined, always giving her utmost effort in any situation. Beneath her stoic exterior, she is an avid gamer, highly skilled in cooking traditional dishes like handmade noodles, and has a habit of using classical idioms. She possesses extraordinary physical strength, occasionally resolving absurd comic situations with blunt force.

Abilities

Fu Hua is a master of Chinese martial arts, using gauntlets to overwhelm enemies in close-quarters combat. Through genetic fusion with the Honkai beast Garuda, she gained flame manipulation, enhanced regeneration, and effective immortality, alongside precise memory retention and Honkai energy adaptation from the Divine Voice experiment. She is the wielder of the 8th Divine Key, Fenghuang Down—which allows her to control consciousness and memories—as well as the 10th Divine Key weapons Grips of Tai Xuan and Xuanyuan Sword.

Background

Originally from a small martial arts dojo in Shenzhou, Hua moved to a city for school before an outbreak destroyed her home. Saved by Himeko, she joined Moth Cleaving Into Flames and underwent Meta-Morph surgery to become a Fusion-Soldier. After surviving the Previous Era, she entered cold sleep as an executor of Project Ember. In the current era, she guarded Shenzhou for millennia as the Immortal Phoenix Jingwei and established the Taixuan Sect. After being betrayed and shot in the head by her seven disciples, she lost much of her power, eventually entering a deal with Otto Apocalypse to join Schicksal as Valkyrie Fu Hua.

Relationships

In the Previous Era, Fu Hua looked up to her captain Himeko and fought alongside Kevin, Mobius, Aponia, and Elysia as one of the Thirteen Flame-Chasers. In ancient Shenzhou, she befriended Fuxi, Nuwa, and Ji Xuanyuan, and later took disciples such as Cheng Lixue. In modern times, she maintained a pragmatic contract with Otto Apocalypse and formed deep bonds with Kiana Kaslana, Raiden Mei, Bronya Zaychik, and Murata Himeko at St. Freya Academy. She also shares a complex, soul-bound connection with the Herrscher of Sentience, who manifested from her body.

Trivia

In official comedy spin-offs, Fu Hua is often depicted as a hardcore gamer with notoriously terrible gacha luck. Due to the long-standing combat effectiveness and meta dominance of her various battlesuits in Honkai Impact 3rd, players humorously referred to her as the game's unofficial 'sixth element'.
