Overview
Sin Mal is a character appearing in Honkai Gakuen and Honkai Impact 3rd. Raised in Cocolia's orphanage, she operates as a powerful member of Anti-Entropy. While portraying an aggressive and ruthless front in early story arcs, she develops a complex, sisterly relationship with her peers like Bronya Zaychik and Seele Vollerei in alternative narrative timelines.
Appearance
Sin Mal features a distinct ahoge on her head and heterochromatic eyes—yellow on the right and purple on the left—which are often partially concealed by her bangs. Her attire varies across forms, ranging from a light purple long dress with delicate hair ornaments to themed costumes such as a Santa outfit.
Personality
In earlier depictions, Sin Mal is bloodthirsty, arrogant, and sadistic, driven primarily by a desire for approval from Cocolia and intense jealousy toward her peers. In the Reborn timeline, having formed closer emotional ties with Bronya and Seele, her volatile personality tempers into a more supportive, expressive, and thoughtful demeanor, though she remains hot-tempered.
Abilities
Sin Mal possesses a Stigma ability that deploys a reality distortion field, capable of freezing time for everything around her except herself and chosen targets. In battle, she utilizes throwing knives, spears, and a clock-hand sword. She employs time-manipulation maneuvers to evade strikes, lay hourglass traps, throw delayed-action projectiles, and trigger deadly countdown fields that alter combat rules.
Background
Originally the daughter of the noble Mal family in Russia, Sin Mal lost her parents to strange disasters and was eventually taken into Cocolia's orphanage. Driven to excel, she resented Bronya Zaychik when the newcomer surpassed her scores. Chosen for the X-10 Experiment, she was sidelined after suffering trauma from an encounter with Seele Vollerei's dark alter ego.
Relationships
Sin Mal revere Cocolia as a mother figure. Her bond with Bronya Zaychik shifts from bitter jealousy to genuine sisterly affection across different storylines. She maintains a competitive relationship with Seele Vollerei, treats Lieserl Albert Einstein (Isalin) roughly while secretly respecting her, and views Nindy as a younger sister figure.
Trivia
Her name derives from the words 'Sin' and 'Mal' (meaning evil), though interpreted in Spanish it translates to 'without evil'. Due to her slightly androgynous visual design, she earned affection from fans under various pet names, while her limited main-story role in Honkai Impact 3rd compared to Honkai Gakuen became a recurring topic among players.
