Overview
Gangle is one of the main characters in the 3D animated web series The Amazing Digital Circus. Formerly a human, she is trapped inside a virtual environment, taking on a unique physical form constructed from bright red ribbons. Wearing interchangeable theatre masks that dictate her facial expressions, she plays a sensitive and often unfortunate role within the core cast of trapped participants.
Appearance
Her body is humanoid, formed from five candy-red ribbons: one coils into a six-turn spiral to create her main torso, while the other four function as smooth, straight arms and legs. Her head is a white porcelain mask with black eyes and mouth, switching between a cheerful comedy mask and a tearful tragedy mask when damaged. In Episode 4, she wears a plastic mask with mismatched eyes and cheek markings, paired with a blue short-sleeved collared shirt, necktie, brown pants, and brown shoes. Other attire includes a ribbon-formed rhino body, a sailor uniform with gold buttons, a muted dress in noir settings, and a blue bandeau bikini with a skirt and straw hat.
Personality
Gangle is naturally timid, pessimistic, and prone to crying, often hiding her gloomy temperament behind a cheerful comedy mask to appear friendly. Though easily hurt and sensitive to pressure, she exhibits a caring nature toward her companions and tries her best when assigned leadership responsibilities. Over time, she gains emotional resilience and confidence, eventually showing genuine smiles and feeling comfortable enough to play lighthearted pranks with her friends.
Abilities
She possesses a body made of flexible ribbons that can reform into different creatures, such as a rhinoceros, during themed adventures. Her facial masks function through dynamic shifting: her fragile comedy mask fits over a durable underlying tragedy mask, altering her emotional display when fractured by force or distress. Additionally, she demonstrates practical skills such as driving modified trailers in chases and handling firearms like Tommy guns during survival games.
Background
In the real world, she was a 26-year-old left-handed woman who worked as a fast-food shift manager while attending community college for graphic design. Although she dreamed of creating her own webcomic, she dropped out of college and abandoned her artistic goals. After mysteriously becoming trapped inside the virtual world of The Amazing Digital Circus, she participates in the various bizarre simulations orchestrated by Caine. Through her experiences as a manager in a fast-food adventure, she grapples with her personal insecurities and finds emotional support among her fellow captives.
Relationships
Jax frequently bullies and blackmails her after discovering her secret regarding anime figures, intentionally breaking her comedy masks. Conversely, she shares a deep bond of mutual trust with Zooble, who provides her with emotional support and gifts her a sturdy alternative mask. Her relationship with Pomni develops into strong mutual trust after supportive interactions. She holds affectionate yet complex feelings toward Ragatha, and shows gentle consideration for Kinger's memory issues.
Trivia
Her personal hobbies include drawing and watching the anime series Azumanga Daioh. Her private bedroom features a sleek design with a black floor and walls accented by yellow geometric lines, furnished with a dark red bed and cylindrical lighting. Due to her mask-based emotional expression, fans and viewers often draw comparisons between her design and characters like Kedamono from Popee the Performer as well as SCP-035.
