Rimuru Tempest

Overview

Rimuru Tempest is the main protagonist of Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken. Originally a Japanese salaryman named Satoru Mikami, he died in an incident and was reincarnated into another world as a slime. Over time, he becomes the ruler of the Jura Tempest Federation, joins the Octagram as a Demon Lord, and eventually evolves into an Ultimate Slime. While fundamentally peace-loving and protective of his allies, he shows a cold, ruthless side toward anyone who harms his friends. Utilizing a massive array of skills, he works continuously to build a realm where diverse species can live together in comfort.

Appearance

In his base form, Rimuru is a squishy, translucent blue slime, which turns golden after his awakening as a Demon Lord. Through his mimicry ability, he can assume a completely genderless human form inspired by Shizue Izawa, featuring pale silver-blue long hair, golden eyes, and a neutral, youthful face. His height increases over time through various evolutionary stages from 130 cm to 150 cm and eventually to 160 cm. His signature wardrobe includes long-sleeved clothing, a blue coat trimmed with fur, leather boots, dark Demon Lord attire, and an anti-magic mask.

Personality

Rimuru is generally a sincere, easygoing, and peace-loving individual who values harmony and cares deeply for his subordinates. Drawing on his past life as a responsible adult, he often takes on troubles out of a sense of duty, attempting to recreate familiar food and entertainment in his new world. However, when his allies or peaceful reign are threatened, he discards his gentleness for absolute mercilessness, executing cold and efficient retaliation against enemies. He remains pragmatic, willing to deploy deceptive tactics to secure victory when the stakes are high.

Abilities

Rimuru possesses immense defensive and offensive capabilities, including nullification of pain, physical attacks, and status ailments, alongside universal perception and shapeshifting. Initially relying on Unique Skills such as Predator (later Gluttony) and Great Sage, he evolves these powers into Ultimate Skills including Raphael (Lord of Wisdom), Beelzebuth (Lord of Gluttony), Veldora (Lord of Storms), and Uriel (Lord of Vows). With the emergence of the Manas Ciel and powers like Azathoth (God of Void), he gains spatial control, high-speed computation, skill manipulation, dragon summoning, and near-absolute immunity to harm.

Background

After dying from a knife wound while protecting a colleague in Japan, 37-year-old Satoru Mikami awoke in a cave in another world as a slime. He befriended the sealed Storm Dragon, Veldora Tempest, receiving his name before setting out. Upon helping a local Goblin village, Rimuru gradually gathered various monster tribes under his leadership, eventually founding the Jura Tempest Federation. Following his fateful encounter with Shizue Izawa, he inherited her form and wishes. To protect his growing nation and revive fallen friends from violent invasions, Rimuru stepped onto the path of becoming an awakened Demon Lord.

Relationships

Veldora Tempest is Rimuru's sworn friend and sworn brother, bound to him by name and soul. Shizue Izawa is his destined partner whose appearance and final wishes he inherited. He commands the absolute loyalty of subordinates like Benimaru, Shuna, Shion, Souei, Hakurou, Kurobee, Ranga, and Rigurd, while Diablo reveres him with fanatical devotion. He maintains strong friendships with fellow Demon Lords Milim Nava and Ramiris. Additionally, his evolved analytical skill self-identifies as Ciel, acting as an inseparable partner deeply connected to his consciousness.

Trivia

Due to his slime physiology, Rimuru requires no oxygen, food, sleep, or excretion, and feels no physical pain owing to his lack of nerves. Right before dying in his previous life, his final request to his junior was to submerge his desktop computer in a bath to destroy its hard drive data. In interactions with strangers, he frequently uses the lighthearted greeting, 'I'm not a bad slime, you know!'
