Chie Rumiko is a character from the visual novel and multimedia franchise Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. She serves as the dedicated homeroom teacher at the Hinamizawa Branch School, overseeing the class attended by Maebara Keiichi and his peers. Renowned for putting her students first, she earns immense trust from the local villagers.

Appearance

She features short blue hair and blue eyes. Her standard attire consists of a plain white one-piece dress paired with sandals, though she is also depicted wearing a school swimsuit. According to the original author, her blue hair color is a visual design choice for character identification rather than a naturally blonde, brown, or dyed hair color.

Personality

She holds a strong sense of justice and places the utmost importance on the well-being of her students. However, she possesses an extreme obsession with curry, consuming it three meals a day and taking offense at anyone who speaks ill of it. Conversely, due to a past experience, she harbours an intense hatred for spaghetti.

Abilities

In addition to her pedagogical duties, she displays unconventional combat capabilities in spin-off titles. She utilizes classroom supplies in battle, throwing chalk and T-squares as projectiles, and is depicted wielding a massive armament known as the Seventh Holy Scripture under the cover of darkness.

Background

During the Hinamizawa dam protest, she defied orders from the Board of Education to take up a teaching position at the Hinamizawa Branch School, which was threatened with closure by dam supporters. Following the end of the dispute, she was officially appointed as a teacher through the intervention of the local town council.

Relationships

She acts as the homeroom teacher for Maebara Keiichi, Ryugu Rena, Sonozaki Mion, Furude Rika, and Hojo Satoko. At the branch school, she assists Principal Kaieda in an administrative capacity. Her character design, trait of loving curry, and visual elements are explicit homages to the character Ciel from Type-Moon's Tsukihime.

Trivia

She maintains a dedicated vegetable garden behind the schoolhouse specifically for cultivating curry ingredients, often assigning its maintenance to students as a punishment. Because her creation is an officially sanctioned parody of a Type-Moon character, the company Type-Moon is credited in the Special Thanks section of various animated and game adaptations.
