Overview
Joo, commonly known by her title Queen Sensei, is a supporting character in Dandadan. She serves as the school nurse at the high school attended by Momo Ayase and Ken Takakura. Though her real name is unknown and her name tag reads only Queen Sensei, her striking, dominatrix-esque aura is paired with a deeply compassionate commitment to protecting her students.
Appearance
She features medium-length black hair covering one eye, blue eyes, and a mole beneath her mouth. Her outfit consists of an open white lab coat revealing her chest worn over a miniskirt that sits above her knees. She is often seen crossing her legs while giving a sharp, dark gaze, holding a metal bat in one hand, which is rendered as a whip in the anime adaptation.
Personality
Despite her formidable and stern outward presentation, she is fundamentally a warm and dedicated educator who harbor a strong hatred for bullying. She addresses students in a frank, reassuring tone and acts swiftly to help them. Conversely, she shows a fiercely aggressive side toward unmannered colleagues, forcefully chastising those who enter her room without knocking. She also demonstrates tough love by physically reprimanding students who try to hide the truth.
Abilities
Her spiritual perception awakened after repeatedly accompanying troubled students to haunted locations and ritual purifications, giving her the ability to perceive spirits and enter void spaces. She also appears to possess a unique restorative touch; after striking Sakata Kinta with a metal bat to the point of caving in his face, his injuries vanished completely, leading him to note that physical pain disappears upon her touch.
Background
She spent her time working as a high school nurse while taking every student's claims regarding supernatural troubles seriously. By regularly accompanying them to haunted sites and shrine exorcisms, she eventually unlocked her own spiritual sight. Flashbacks show her undergoing exorcism rituals at a shrine alongside her students.
Relationships
When Momo Ayase and Ken Takakura arrived at her office in their underwear, she immediately suspected bullying and offered them protection. She delivered a heavy blow to Sakata Kinta that ultimately relieved his pain. Upon encountering Kouki Yukishiro, she detected the small spirits around her and delivered a slap to correct her when she attempted to lie.
Trivia
Her character concept and the specific title of her spotlight chapter are considered an homage to Maya Akutsu, the central teacher in the Japanese television drama The Queen's Classroom, who similarly conceals deep care for her pupils behind an intimidating facade.
