Karma is a tall youth characterized by short red hair, light-colored eyes, a small tuft of hair sticking up, and noticeable sharp canine teeth. Upon reaching adulthood, his hairstyle changes and his height grows significantly taller.

Feeling betrayed by his homeroom teacher's hypocritical response, he developed a profound distrust of teachers and was suspended, subsequently demoted to Class E. Upon joining Class E, he initially challenged Koro-sensei with fierce hostility and reckless assassination attempts, but gradually gained respect for him through his guidance. After middle school, he continued his education at Kunugigaoka High School, eventually passing the national civil service exam during college to become a bureaucrat in the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Initially harboring hatred toward teachers, Karma eventually develops mutual respect and a healthy assassination intent for Koro-sensei following his dedicated guidance. He shares a long-standing relationship with Nagisa Shiota; though their awareness of each other's talents created a temporary rift, they fully reconcile as equals after their class duel. He views Gakushuu Asano as a fierce academic rival for the school's top exam ranking. Additionally, Manami Okuda is one of the few classmates around whom Karma completely lowers his guard and speaks candidly.

His given name, Karma, was chosen from Sanskrit and Buddhist terminology by his parents, who are day traders and avid world travelers. Within Class 3-E, he received the official codename 'Chuunihan' (Half-Chuunibyou). Karma enjoys drinking strawberry-flavored milk beverages and has a hobby of collecting exotic spices from around the world. His ultimate ambition was to work behind the scenes as an influential bureaucrat capable of assisting society during emergencies.
