Overview

Nishikigi Chisato is the main protagonist of the original television anime series Lycoris Recoil. Belonging to the secret counter-terrorism organization Direct Attack (DA), she is a First Lycoris hailed as the strongest agent in history after resolving the Old Radio Tower incident at just seven years old. Leaving DA headquarters behind, she currently works as the self-proclaimed poster girl at Cafe LycoReco, assisting local citizens with everyday problems while upholding a strict code of non-lethal combat.

Appearance

Chisato is a girl with red eyes and yellowish-white hair cut into a bob, styled asymmetrically with a red ribbon tied on the left side. She has a well-toned physical build. Her attire prominently features red tones, ranging from a two-tone red-and-grey pleated Lycoris uniform with a blue neck ribbon and red belt, to her Cafe LycoReco outfit consisting of a red kimono, green waist bow, and apron. In private, she is sometimes seen wearing white pajamas with hair tied in twintails. She carries weapons such as a custom Detonics 1911, a restraint gun, a Kel-Tec KSG shotgun, and a concealed weapon bag disguised as a school bag.

Personality

Chisato is an energetic, free-spirited girl who is always smiling and prefers living in the moment, guided by her principles of prioritizing what she wants to do and valuing life above all. Although playful and prone to teasing those close to her, she is deeply empathetic and insightful regarding others' feelings. She possesses a competitive streak, applying her full effort even to casual games. She is a massive movie enthusiast, particularly fond of Western films, but lacks artistic drawing skills and harbors a secret fear of getting shots.

Abilities

Renowned as a prodigy in combat, Chisato possesses exceptional kinetic vision and observational skills, allowing her to predict opponents' firing timing and trajectories to dodge point-blank gunfire. She relies on the Center Axis Relock (C.A.R.) shooting system combined with hand-to-hand combat. Adhering to strict non-lethality, she uses handmade rubber bullets and restraint tools to neutralize enemies without taking lives, even treating their injuries afterward. Her primary weakness lies in situations where her line of sight is obstructed or when facing unexpected surprise attacks.

Background

Born with a congenital heart condition, Chisato was saved when she received an artificial heart provided by Yoshimatsu Shinji of the Alan Institute. At seven years old, she gained fame as the 'Lycoris of the Radio Tower' after resolving a major terrorist incident single-handedly. Opposing DA's deadly methods, she transitioned to a non-lethal philosophy and began working at Cafe LycoReco under Mika. Despite having her artificial heart damaged and her life expectancy cut short during the events of the story, she ultimately survives after receiving a replacement heart.

Relationships

She forms a close partnership with Inoue Takina at Cafe LycoReco, developing a bond of deep trust and mutual support. She views the cafe manager Mika as her teacher and father figure. She holds deep gratitude toward Yoshimatsu Shinji of the Alan Institute, considering him her savior. Direct Attack Commander Kusunoki acknowledges her genius while being frequently annoyed by her insubordination. She shares a complex rivalry with the terrorist Majima, with whom she clashes repeatedly while sharing a strange mutual understanding.

Trivia

Her character name originates from the folklore tale Nishikigizuka Monogatari and the language of flowers associated with the winged spindle tree (Nishikigi). Her primary firearm, a customized Detonics Combat Master, used Tokyo Marui's Strike Warrior airsoft gun as design reference and was later officially produced as a replica by the manufacturer. The playful scene in the anime's opening sequence where she and Takina kick each other's rear ends is a homage to the 1986 film Stand by Me.
