Robota

Overview

Robota is a supporting character in the anime series Lycoris Recoil. Operating in the underworld as a cyber criminal, he boldly proclaims himself to be the premier hacker on the planet. Driven by strong professional rivalry toward Walnut, who holds the reputation of top hacker in Japan, he aligns himself with Shinji Yoshimatsu of the Alan Institute and the terrorist Majima to execute strategic cyber operations.

Appearance

Robota constantly hides his true face underneath a full headpiece shaped like a vintage robot. The top of this helmet is fitted with an alarm light that flashes red to reflect his shifting emotional state, while the eyes illuminate with a blue glow.

Personality

Robota possesses an inflated ego and overestimates his own standing as a hacker. He harbors intense jealousy toward Walnut, yet his naive arrogance often leaves him easily duped, causing others to view him as a mere disposable pawn. Despite his pathetic tendencies, he exhibits desperate persistence when physically threatened, relying on quick thinking under pressure to save his own skin.

Abilities

Robota is a highly capable hacker adept at infiltrating digital infrastructure, such as overriding automated vehicle controls remotely. He can breach secure networks by planting backdoors—such as bypassing Direct Attack's AI, Radiata, via police equipment—to paralyze defense systems, while also managing wide-scale broadcast hijackings.

Background

To eliminate Walnut, Robota colluded with Shinji Yoshimatsu of the Alan Institute to track down his rival's hideout. Duped by a decoy plot, he believed the assassination succeeded. He then pursued an alliance with the terrorist Majima. Though initially held at gunpoint, Robota secured his place by directing Majima's attention toward Chisato Nishikigi. During the Enku Tower crisis, he provided cyber support to expose the secret organization, but was ultimate counter-hacked by Walnut, revealing his location to the authorities who promptly arrested him.

Relationships

He views Walnut as his primary target of resentment and plotted his rival's demise to claim the top spot. Shinji Yoshimatsu of the Alan Institute treated him as an easily manipulated tool for hired cyber tasks. He persistently sought a partnership with the terrorist Majima, eventually serving as his technical specialist despite a rocky start where Majima nearly shot him.

Trivia

Although his face is never revealed over the course of the animated series, design reference material published in official character archives includes illustrations of his unmasked appearance. He is also recognized for shouting a distinctive scream when caught off guard.
