Overview

Sahaquiel is an antagonistic entity appearing in the anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion, where it is designated as the Tenth Angel. Positioned high in satellite orbit, this massive airborne threat attacks by converting its enormous mass and force field into a kinetic bomb targeted at Earth. In the film Rebuild of Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance, it is renumbered as the Eighth Angel, while in the manga adaptation it holds the title of the Seventh Angel.

Appearance

Sahaquiel is a flattened, amoeba-like entity with an exceptionally wide, symmetrical geometric shape spanning over 800 meters—nearly twenty times the width of an Evangelion unit. Its orange body features three distinctive markings reminiscent of Egyptian mural eyes, situated at the center and at both broad extremities. Each of its outer edges also gives rise to three stem-like projections extending outward in a radial arrangement.

Abilities

Stationed in high orbit, Sahaquiel attacks by severing fragments of its own body and dropping them to Earth. Utilizing the immense force generated by their gravitational descent, it continuously recalibrates its aim. For its main strike, it deploys a powerful Absolute Terror Field and initiates a direct suicidal plunge, transforming its colossal body into a devastating mass bomb.

Background

In the twelfth episode of the original television series, Sahaquiel arrives high above Earth with the aim of obliterating NERV Headquarters. After fine-tuning its landing target by dropping pieces of itself, the entity commits to a full-scale descent. Its suicidal drop is intercepted at the last second by the combined effort of EVA Unit-01, EVA Unit-02, and EVA Unit-00, which catch the impact together. The battle concludes when EVA Unit-02 drives a Progressive Knife directly into Sahaquiel's core, destroying the threat.

Relationships

Seeking to smash NERV Headquarters, Sahaquiel comes into conflict with the defense forces piloting the Evangelion units: Shinji Ikari in EVA Unit-01, Asuka Langley Soryu in EVA Unit-02, and Rei Ayanami in EVA Unit-00. The three pilots operate in unison to hold off the creature's immense falling weight, culminating in EVA Unit-02 landing the decisive blow.

Trivia

The entity derives its designation from the traditional Angel of the Sky whose name translates to 'Knowledge of God.' According to apocryphal lore such as the Third Book of Enoch, this angelic figure governs the Fourth Heaven and commands vast celestial hosts.
