Overview

Raoh, self-proclaimed as Ken-Oh (the Fist King) and the Conqueror of the Century's End, is a central antagonist in the manga and anime franchise Hokuto no Ken. As the eldest of the four adopted brothers trained in Hokuto Shinken, he is the biological brother of Toki and Kaioh. Driven by immense ambition, he rejects traditional succession laws to forge a vast military empire through sheer force. Mounted on his legendary black horse Kokuoh-go, Raoh reigns over the post-apocalyptic wasteland as the ultimate rival to his adoptive younger brother, Kenshiro.

Appearance

Standing at 210 cm and weighing 145 kg, Raoh is a massive, heavily muscled warrior with deeply furrowed lines between his brows. He sports short, slightly wavy hair—often depicted as silver-white, though blonde or black in certain adaptations—and black eyes. When armor is worn, he equips a signature helmet adorned with two large horns, heavy chest armor, and a cape. He is frequently pictured riding his gargantuan dark steed, Kokuoh-go.

Personality

Raoh is an unyielding tyrant who initially views affection and weakness as impediments to conquest. He believes in ruling through absolute strength, holding immense disdain for cowardice, submission, and retreat. However, he harbors deep respect for individuals who demonstrate unwavering courage or sacrificial resolve, even acknowledging children or foes who stand their ground. Through intense battles and personal grief, he gradually opens his heart to sorrow and love, remaining fiercely proud of his chosen path until his final moments.

Abilities

Mastering the 'Fist of Strength' (Gou no Ken) style of Hokuto Shinken, Raoh projects overwhelming fighting aura capable of repelling foes without physical contact. His martial repertoire features powerful energy projections such as Hokuto Goshou Ha and Tenshou Honretsu, as well as the counter-technique Musou Insatsu. He can strike the deadly pressure point Shinketsushuu, causing death after three days, and possesses secret arts seized from numerous rival schools. After comprehending true sorrow, he masters the ultimate Hokuto technique, Musou Tensei.

Background

Born in the Land of Asura, Raoh traveled across the sea in his youth alongside his brother Toki to study Hokuto Shinken under Master Ryuken. When Kenshiro was chosen as the sole successor, Raoh struck down Ryuken rather than allow his martial arts to be sealed. Taking the title Fist King, he established a military force that conquered regions and pillaged other fighting styles. After defeating numerous powerful opponents and experiencing deep personal tragedy, he mastered Musou Tensei and fought a decisive final battle against Kenshiro.

Relationships

Raoh is the biological older brother of Toki, the younger brother of Kaioh and Sayaka, the elder adoptive brother of Jagi and Kenshiro, and the father of Ryu. He killed his master, Ryuken, after being denied the Hokuto Shinken succession. Over his military career, he fought lethal duels against elite rivals including Rei, Huey, Shuren, Juza, and Fudoh. He harbored complex feelings of love and passion for Yuria, while inspiring intense affection from women like Reina and Toh.

Trivia

Raoh's iconic parting declaration before his death, expressing that he has not a single regret in his entire life, remains one of the most famous quotes in manga history. His legendary steed, Kokuoh-go, is so trusted that Raoh dismounts only when facing opponents he genuinely respects as true equals. His overwhelming popularity led to spin-off projects centered on his rise to power, such as Ten no Haoh.
