Overview
Itoshi Rin is a central character in Blue Lock and the top-ranked player within the Blue Lock project. The younger brother of international star midfielder Itoshi Sae, Rin is a hyper-egoistic center forward who combines exceptional scoring prowess with outstanding spatial reading. Driven by a deep rift with his brother, Rin plays as a self-styled destroyer, relentlessly seeking to dominate the pitch and surpass his sibling.
Appearance
Rin stands 186 cm tall (later 187 cm) with short black or dark green hair featuring strands hanging between his eyes. He is distinguished by notably long lower eyelashes and turquoise-blue eyes. He is right-footed with a shoe size of 27.5 cm. When entering his FLOW state, his countenance turns wild and menacing, characterized by wide-staring eyes and a gaping mouth with his tongue exposed.
Personality
Rin presents a cold, impassive exterior while displaying an exceptionally arrogant and demanding personality. He maintains an intense regimen of personal practice, post-match yoga, and meditation. Highly critical of anything he views as half-hearted, he nonetheless exhibits tactical rationality, giving clear field directions and executing coordinated plays with teammates whose abilities he respects. He harbors a fierce hatred of losing to anyone on the pitch.
Abilities
Boasting the highest average goal tally in Blue Lock, Rin is an all-around striker who integrates precise kicking, physical strength, and advanced spatial reading. He excels at predicting enemy behavior and luring opponents into tactical traps. Outside of match tactics, he possesses native-level English fluency and solid physical combat skills. In his FLOW state, he rejects team coordination entirely, adopting a hyper-aggressive style aimed at baiting opponents into using their best attributes so he can crush them directly.
Background
Raised in Kamakura, Kanagawa Prefecture, Rin took up football after being inspired by his prodigy brother Sae. The pair originally shared a goal of becoming the world's top two strikers. However, after Sae returned from Spain and announced his shift to becoming a midfielder, Rin rejected the change. Sae soundly defeated Rin in a one-on-one duel and harsh words parted them. Fueled by resentment, Rin swore to crush Sae's career and joined the Blue Lock project, establishing himself as its top athlete.
Relationships
His older brother Itoshi Sae is his primary target of rival resentment following their childhood rupture. Initially dismissive of Isagi Yoichi, Rin comes to acknowledge Isagi's rapid evolution and tactical awareness, recognizing him as a formidable competitor. He frequently clashes with Shidou Ryusei due to irreconcilable athletic philosophies, while remaining highly valued by project director Ego Jinpachi.
Trivia
Rin loves ochazuke—especially sea bream ochazuke—and enjoys tuna with soy sauce and wasabi, but dislikes sour foods containing vinegar. His hobbies include playing horror games and watching horror movies, citing the group King Gnu (and their song Prayer X) as his favorite music. He is fond of owls, regularly buys steam eye masks, and habitually splashes warm water on his eyes first when taking a bath.
