Hiori maintains a calm, polite demeanor, speaking in a gentle Kyoto dialect. He is an avid gamer whose thought process is heavily influenced by video games, often using concepts from titles like Tetris or Puyo Puyo to conceptualize real-time tactical decisions on the pitch. Due to his upbringing, he dislikes interference from others and prefers solitude. While he initially resisted high expectations from those around him, his development as a player leads him to embrace a ruthless inner ego, transforming his passive detachment into a driven desire to control the match according to his vision.

Raised by parents who were elite athletes—a silver-medalist father in judo and a runner-up mother in high jump—Hiori was subjected to extreme pressure to succeed where they had failed. Realizing that his parents valued his athletic potential over his well-being, he came to resent football and viewed entering Blue Lock as a way to distance himself from his household. Advancing through the selection phases and serving as a key substitute in the U-20 Japan match, he later joined Germany's Bastard München. During the match against Italy, he conquered his past trauma, establishing his purpose on the pitch alongside Yoichi Isagi.

Relationships

Hiori shares a deep tactical connection with Yoichi Isagi, as both utilize similar vision techniques on the pitch. Hiori chooses to act as the creative catalyst responsible for elevating Isagi to become the world's best striker. Tabito Karasu is a longtime acquaintance from their time together at Bambi Osaka Youth prior to Blue Lock; Karasu recognized Hiori's emotional detachment early on and urged him to place expectations on himself. Conversely, Hiori harbored severe friction with his parents, Ginji and Junko, whose conditional love left a lasting scar.
