Appearance
Murdoch Swan is described as a 47-year-old middle-aged man with facial hair consisting of a mustache, characterized by a sinister and unpleasant facial expression.
Personality
Swan is arrogant, greedy, and thoroughly insensitive, relying heavily on his father's authority to act overbearingly toward others. Having lost custody of his daughter following a recent divorce, he harbors bitter jealousy toward harmonious families. He takes malicious pleasure in tormenting interview candidates and their parents with spiteful personal probing. Selfish and lacking any remorse, he shows contempt for rules and exhibits cowardice when cornered, even attempting bribery when threatened.
Abilities
Swan possesses the administrative and pedagogical standing to teach Economics and serve as the Housemaster of Dormitory 2 at Eden Academy. However, he lacks true personal capability or combat skills, relying entirely on his status and nepotism rather than genuine merit.
Background
As the son of Eden Academy's former headmaster, Murdoch Swan secured his appointment as an Economics teacher and Housemaster through nepotism. Prior to the admissions interview exam, he underwent a bitter divorce and lost custody of his child. Assigned as an interviewer, his jealousy led him to conduct a malicious stress interview against the Forger family. After bringing Anya Forger to tears by demanding she compare her adoptive mother to her deceased biological mother, his cruel provocation enraged Loid and Yor Forger, ultimately prompting his colleague Henry Henderson to knock him unconscious with a punch.
Relationships
Murdoch Swan shares a hostile dynamic with his colleague Henry Henderson, who punched him during the interview out of disgust for his unethical conduct, leaving Swan deeply resentful. He targeted Loid Forger, Yor Forger, and Anya Forger during their entrance interview, maliciously driving Anya to tears out of envy for their family bond, which nearly provoked physical retaliation from Loid and Yor. Walter Evans served as a co-examiner alongside Swan, attempting to moderate Swan's line of questioning when it crossed professional boundaries.
Trivia
Unlike many antagonists in SPY×FAMILY who display occasional redeeming features or humanizing moments, Murdoch Swan is portrayed without any sympathetic qualities. Additionally, despite his minor role, he appears briefly in the ending animation sequence for the first cour of the anime adaptation.
