Negative Prompt

A list of things you do NOT want in your image — your quality-control filter.

A negative prompt tells the AI what to avoid. While your Prompt describes what should be in the image, the negative prompt filters out what shouldn't — blurry results, extra fingers, watermarks, or anything else you'd rather not see.

On PixAI

You'll find the negative prompt box under Advanced settings in the generation panel. PixAI fills in a smart default list for you (things like worst quality, bad anatomy, lowres, bad hands, watermark), so you get decent quality without touching it. You can edit the list freely.

When to customize it

  • Steering the subject. The AI sometimes defaults to female characters — add 1girl, feminine features, makeup to the negatives when you want to generate male characters.

  • Clean backgrounds. Making a scenery image? Add 1girl, 1boy, people, text, watermark to keep characters out of it.

  • Multi-character scenes. Add merged bodies, extra arms, conjoined, multiple heads to stop two characters from blending into one — see Trigger-Words for the full multi-character workflow.

Tips

  • Describing what you want usually works better than negating: to remove a watermark with Inpainting, prompt what should be there (e.g. "white floor") instead of "remove watermark".

  • Negative prompts are also available in Image-to-Video — words like blurry, disfigured, grainy help videos stay clean.
