Overview
Anti is a key character appearing in SSSS.GRIDMAN and the broader Gridman Universe. Originally created by Shinjou Akane as an auto-intelligence kaiju dedicated entirely to destroying Gridman, he later evolves beyond his initial programming by developing a human heart. Choosing his own path, he transforms into the hero Gridknight and forms the Gridknight Alliance alongside Anosillus the 2nd to travel across different dimensions and protect them from kaiju threats.
Appearance
In human form, Anti initially appears as a small boy with short silver hair and sanpaku eyes, possessing heterochromia with a red left eye and a blue right eye. He wears a long scarf and a gakuran-style outfit decorated with purple flame patterns. In his later mature appearance, he wears a formal suit, has longer hair, carries a red sword at his waist, and covers one eye. His kaiju form is a blue giant equipped with yellow glowing organs across its body, which can alter its limb and torso structures.
Personality
Anti is quiet and solitary, initially driven solely by absolute loyalty to his creator, Shinjou Akane, and an obsession with destroying Gridman. He possesses a strong sense of personal pride, refusing to harm ordinary humans because it falls outside his intended purpose. Lacking basic social manners, he consumes food aggressively without utensils, burying his face directly into his meals. Despite being mistreated, he remains faithful to Akane, but his interactions with Takarada Rikka and the Neon Genesis Middle Students gradually cultivate empathy, self-awareness, and protective instincts within him.
Abilities
In human form, Anti exhibits exceptional physical capabilities, wielding a sleeve-generated rotary saw known as the Anti-Circular in left-handed combat. Upon transforming into a kaiju, he fires purple energy blasts and concentrated beams from glowing yellow organs. His primary trait is combat adaptation, allowing him to replicate opponents' attributes—such as arm blades, heavy beams, abdominal missile launchers, and aerial thrusters—though his kaiju form operates under a strict time limit. As Gridknight, he wields the Gridknight Circular energy ring, a red longsword, and can combine with Dynazenon units to form powerful combined modes.
Background
Created by Shinjou Akane and Alexis Kerib as a custom weapon to destroy Gridman, Anti repeatedly engages Gridman in combat within Tsutsujidai. After failing to win, he is discarded by Akane and blinded in his right eye by Alexis. Taking shelter, he receives kindness from Takarada Rikka and the Neon Genesis Middle Students, fostering a genuine human consciousness. When Akane is in danger, his desire to save her enables him to transform into Gridknight. After the battle, his eye is restored by Anosillus the 2nd, and the two form the Gridknight Alliance, traveling across alternate worlds to defeat emerging kaiju threats.
Relationships
Anti holds deep devotion toward his creator, Shinjou Akane, enduring her mistreatment and eventually saving her heart from her own turmoil. While initially seeing Gridman purely as his ultimate target, their repeated clashes turn into mutual respect and comradeship. Takarada Rikka provides him with food and shelter during his lowest points, introducing him to human kindness. Samurai Caliber and the Neon Genesis Middle Students recognize his evolving humanity. After Alexis Kerib severely injures him, Anosillus the 2nd rescues and heals him, becoming his trusted traveling companion in the Gridknight Alliance.
Trivia
Anti's human visual design and rotary saw weapon pay homage to Shattered Glass Rodimus from the Transformers franchise. His kaiju form draws primary inspiration from the ninja kaiju Shinobilar in the original live-action Gridman the Hyper Agent, while incorporating design elements from various kaiju and mecha series. Locations associated with him, such as the restaurant Donguri no Ki, serve as direct homages to episodes from the original 1993 tokusatsu series.
