Gridknight

Overview

Gridknight is a heroic giant appearing in SSSS.GRIDMAN and its related franchise. Originally created as the kaiju Anti by Akane Shinjo to eradicate Gridman, he eventually redefines his purpose and awakens into this form by copying Gridman's appearance and capabilities. Acknowledged as the knight who protects Gridman, he later travels across dimensions under the name Knight in SSSS.DYNAZENON, forming the Gridknight Alliance to safeguard worlds alongside allies.

Appearance

Gridknight wears full power armor that combines Gridman's physical structure with features from Anti's kaiju form. Pointed ear-like components protrude from the sides of his helmet, and a yellow mesh pattern extends across his entire body. Below the neck, his silhouette matches Gridman except for his distinct Anti-colored armor palette and the absence of a Primal Acceptor. An assault visor modeled after his original kaiju eyes covers his face, shielding a pair of red eyes beneath.

Personality

Originally driven by brutal obsession and intense hatred, he undergoes profound character growth through his human interactions. Although he retains a blunt and reserved demeanor, he develops a high degree of emotional composure and quiet honorable resolve. Guided by his determination to stand alongside Gridman, he exhibits calm tactical awareness in battle and demonstrates steadfast, unspoken loyalty toward those he chooses to protect.

Abilities

Combines acrobatic physical prowess with sharp tactical analysis. His arsenal includes the Gridknight Circular, a disc of purple energy that can be thrown, held directly as a cutting tool in Knight Circular End, or unleashed in multiples. He fires the purple Gridknight Storm beam from an open-hand stance, launches energy orbs via Knight Bakuretsu Kouhadan, and executes Knight Caliber End using the red Gridknight Caliber or the unminded Repli-Caliber sword. He can also fire the Dynamic Cannon alongside allies. Able to transform at will, he combines into enhanced forms such as Kaiser Gridknight, Gridburn Knight, and Full Power Gridknight, and can temporarily revert to his kaiju state.

Background

Bred by Akane Shinjo specifically to destroy Gridman, he was eventually discarded when he failed to fulfill his command. Searching for a reason to live, he chose to save his rival, copying Gridman's power to transcend his kaiju identity and awaken as a new heroic giant. Named Gridknight by Yuta Hibiki and his allies, he fought to rescue Gridman. Later adopting the human guise of Knight, he partnered with the 2nd to form the Gridknight Alliance, traveling across dimensions to combat kaiju threats and assist the Gauma Team.

Relationships

He initially held absolute obedience toward his creator, Akane Shinjo, but gained self-actualization after being cast aside. His relationship with Gridman evolved from relentless hatred into a unique partnership defined by mutual respect. Samurai Caliber validated his true transformation by declaring him the real deal. In SSSS.DYNAZENON, he travels alongside his partner, the 2nd, establishing a solid alliance with Yomogi Asanaka and the rest of the Gauma Team.

Trivia

The concept and naming of Gridknight draw inspiration from Khan Knight, an unproduced character concept originally intended for the live-action series Gridman the Hyper Agent. Furthermore, his dramatic appearance at the climax of Episode 6 in SSSS.DYNAZENON was moved forward from the original production schedule to alleviate the heavy narrative tone affecting the main cast at that point in the story.
