Overview

Shinjou Akane is a central character and primary antagonist in the anime series SSSS.GRIDMAN. At Tsutsujidai High School, she is portrayed as the ultimate high school girl, universally admired by her peers for her beauty and charm. Beneath this perfect facade, however, she is the secret architect of the entire city and world, acting as the mastermind behind the destructive kaiju attacks that threaten the town.

Appearance

Akane has short, silver-pinkish hair, striking red eyes, and a voluptuous build. She wears a distinctive oversized purple hoodie over her school uniform, keeping it unzipped at the chest with extra-long sleeves covering her hands. The hood features four horn-like points. She wears black tights even in the summer and leaves them on around her house, though she removes them and puts on a pair of cracked glasses and headphones when operating at home. She notably pulls her heavily cracked smartphone out from her cleavage.

Personality

On the surface, Akane acts friendly, cheerful, and approachable. In reality, she possesses a deeply selfish, sociopathic, and childishly cruel temperament. As a passionate kaiju fanatic, she firmly believes monsters are the true stars of tokusatsu stories. She holds complete indifference toward human life, casually unleashing monsters to murder anyone who slightly annoys her. When her plans fail, she throws violent tantrums and lashes out at her belongings. Her personal life is thoroughly unkempt, leaving her bedroom overflowing with bags of trash.

Abilities

Akane exhibits exceptional modeling craftsmanship, carving highly detailed kaiju figures using box cutters and design knives. She possesses advanced programming skills capable of equipping her monsters with auto-intelligence functions. Partnering with Alexis Kerib, she can turn her sculptures into living monsters in the real world and monitor them via drones. In later events, she demonstrates the ability to use Instance Domination to physically control Alexis and other massive entities.

Background

Escaping loneliness in the real world, Akane created the digital town of Tsutsujidai, serving as its absolute deity while being manipulated by the alien entity Alexis Kerib. She designed the world so everyone would love her, using kaiju to reshape the town whenever she felt stressed. However, after clashing with Yuta Hibiki and the Gridman Alliance, and confronted by her deep bond with Rikka Takarada, she realizes the tragedy of her actions. After helping defeat and seal Alexis, she steps away from her manufactured world to awaken in the real world.

Relationships

She shares a complex relationship with Rikka Takarada, her neighbor and former close friend, who remains deeply important to her despite the distance between them. She shows interest in Yuta Hibiki due to his memory loss and connection to Gridman, though she eventually stabs him with a box cutter. She relies heavily on Alexis Kerib to materialize her sculptures, unaware he is manipulating her distorted heart. She also treats Anti, a sentient kaiju of her own creation, with cold contempt and physical abuse.

Trivia

Akane's character design and color scheme are directly inspired by Shattered Glass Optimus Prime from Transformers. Her role as a solitary student creating monsters to vent frustration—along with her house's design and use of a box cutter—draws heavy homage to Takeshi Todo, the antagonist from the original live-action Tokusatsu series Denkou Choujin Gridman, as well as unproduced concepts from Gridman F.
