Claire Redfield

Overview

Claire Redfield is one of the primary protagonists in the Resident Evil series. Initially introduced as a college student searching for her missing older brother during a biohazard outbreak, she evolves into a key operative for TerraSave, an NGO dedicated to combatting bioterrorism and supporting victims. Combining a strong sense of justice inherited from her brother with deep empathy, she stands out as a fiercely resilient and compassionate heroine.

Appearance

Claire has long, reddish-brown hair bound in a ponytail and striking blue eyes. She favors red clothing, notably signature red jackets. Her outfits typically feature practical garments such as denim pants or shorts, paired with a belt, shirts, and fingerless gloves.

Personality

Claire is energetic, resolute, and driven by an indomitable spirit. Despite her headstrong nature, she possesses a warm and protective personality, often displaying maternal care toward younger survivors in crisis. As she matures over time, she gains a calm, composed demeanor while retaining her brave, action-oriented pursuit of justice. She also harbors a deep passion for customizing and riding heavy motorcycles.

Abilities

Trained by her brother in self-defense, martial arts, lockpicking, and marksmanship, Claire handles weapons ranging from handguns and crossbows to heavy firearms like grenade launchers and gatling guns. She possesses total immunity to the t-Virus, preventing her from turning into a zombie. Although her raw physical lifting strength is average, she exhibits highly refined close-quarters combat skills capable of overpowering seasoned combatants.

Background

Orphaned at a young age, Claire was raised with support from her elder brother. Her life changed drastically when she traveled to Raccoon City to locate him after he vanished, plunging her directly into a catastrophic viral outbreak. After escaping the city, her search led her to infiltrate Umbrella facilities in Europe, resulting in her imprisonment on Rockfort Island. Surviving another crisis alongside a young companion who tragically died, she eventually reunited with her brother. She later dedicated her life to the NGO TerraSave to aid victims and fight global bioterrorism.

Relationships

Claire holds her older brother, Chris Redfield, in high esteem, sharing an unshakeable familial bond. She maintains a lasting friendship and operational connection with Leon S. Kennedy and Sherry Birkin, whom she survived Raccoon City with. On Rockfort Island, she formed a tragic romantic bond with Steve Burnside prior to his demise. Through her work with TerraSave, she became close with Barry Burton and his daughter Moira Burton, and later acts as a guardian to young Natalia Korda.

Trivia

In the early development concept for Resident Evil 2 (known as "Resident Evil 1.5"), the character was originally named Elza Walker, a blonde college student with no familial relation to Chris. Throughout her various missions, she has uniquely survived at least five separate facility self-destruct countdowns. Additionally, while she frequently forms strong, caring bonds with younger females, she is humorously noted for her tragic luck regarding romantic male interests, who repeatedly suffer mutations and untimely deaths.
