Overview
Ramon Salazar is a villain in Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 4 Remake. He serves as the eighth castellan of the Salazar family, ruling over an isolated European castle, and acts as a high-ranking member of the Los Iluminados cult deeply devoted to Osmund Saddler. Having unsealed the parasitic Plaga organisms that his ancestors had long guarded against, he presents a major obstacle to Leon S. Kennedy by deploying deadly encounters and cultists throughout his domain.
Appearance
Despite being twenty years old, Ramon Salazar has a short, child-like stature paired with a heavily wrinkled, elderly face, white hair, and pointy ears. He wears noble attire consisting of a coat, an ascot tie, and a hat, with heavy makeup applied to his face in Resident Evil 4 Remake. In his mutated form in the original game, he merges with a plant-like Plaga mass and his Verdugo bodyguard on a far wall, concealing his true body in a shell flanked by large tentacles and a central jaws unit. In the remake's mutated form, he turns into a swift, wall-crawling creature featuring three-part jaws, multiple tendrils, and his core body embedded inside the mouth with an enlarged orange left eye.
Personality
Driven by loneliness after losing his family, Ramon Salazar fell completely under the influence of Osmund Saddler. Even prior to his conversion, he harbored a cruel temper, abusing servants and resenting his strict father. In the original story, he displays a hysterical and childish demeanor, quickly losing his temper when taunted over communications. In the remake, he initially projects a composed, noble persona, but degenerates into crude verbal abuse once his plans fail and he is pressed into battle.
Abilities
Ramon Salazar commands the cultists in his territory and utilizes the intricate traps built into his castle. After undergoing mutation, he gains access to an instant-kill bite attack. In the original version, he uses massive wall-mounted tentacles to slam targets and continuously spawns parasites from the base of the central organism. In the remake, his mutated form scales walls and ceilings with high agility, spewing linear acid beams, deploying explosive acidic mucus, and charging targets across the arena.
Background
The Salazar lineage originally defeated the cult at the castle and assumed responsibility for sealing away the Plaga parasites and monitoring the exiled cultists. However, after losing his parents to the cult's machinations, Ramon became isolated and submitted to Osmund Saddler. Denouncing his ancestors' deeds as historic sins, he unsealed the buried Plaga and surrendered control of the castle to Los Iluminados. His ultimate death at the hands of Leon S. Kennedy brought an end to the Salazar bloodline.
Relationships
Ramon Salazar is utterly devoted to Osmund Saddler, though Saddler privately views him as an incompetent subordinate. He held intense hatred for his strict father, Diego Salazar, to the point of defacing his portrait. Throughout Leon S. Kennedy's intrusion into the castle, Salazar repeatedly taunts him over communication channels, only to be met with constant sarcastic rebuttals.
Trivia
Salazar stands out as one of the few characters in the series to address Leon S. Kennedy by his full or middle name during radio conversations. In Resident Evil 4 Remake, he possesses a unique vulnerability to chicken eggs; hitting him with a Golden Chicken Egg inflicts massive damage and immediately knocks him down. This quirk directly ties into an in-game side request where the player is tasked with defacing his portrait using an egg.
