Dot Barrett

Overview

Dot Barrett is a first-year student belonging to Adler House at Easton Magic Academy in the series Mashle: Magic and Muscles. Loud and highly passionate, he harbors a deep resentment toward handsome men due to his own total lack of romantic popularity, even harboring a dream to create a world free of attractive guys once he joins the Bureau of Magic. Despite his disruptive antics, he stands alongside Mash Burnedead and his peers as a loyal classmate and battle ally.

Appearance

Dot features spiky red hair held by a headband and a facial magic mark on his left cheek. He dresses in standard academy attire consisting of a collared white shirt, a red necktie, and a black robe. Unbeknownst to most, hiding beneath his headband on his forehead is a unique cross-shaped mark.

Personality

Dot is direct, volatile, and highly self-conscious around women, becoming easily flustered by subtle physical contact or charming gestures. His strong inferiority complex makes him openly aggressive toward handsome men. However, he also possesses a chivalrous side, instinctively protecting women in danger and taking responsibility for his own conflicts. Guided by his sister's advice to never betray genuine friends who get angry or cry for his sake, he is fiercely dedicated and reliable to those he accepts into his inner circle.

Abilities

Dot wields explosive magic, primarily casting Explomb to launch destructive fireballs capable of subduing opponents in a single hit, as well as Machine Gun Explomb to shower targets with a rapid barrage. Furthermore, he is an Ira Kreuz, a unique type of combat mage marked with a cross on his forehead. When his emotions breach a certain threshold, his sealed magic power unveils, allowing him to deploy cross-themed cannons in battle.

Background

During his childhood, Dot was timid and often protected by his sister from local bullies. He carried her teachings about friendship into his student life at Easton Magic Academy. Though his first encounter with Mash Burnedead during an off-campus class began with Dot picking a fight out of envy, Mash's selfless anger on his behalf caused Dot to acknowledge him as a true friend and join his inner circle.

Relationships

Dot shares a bond of deep mutual respect with Mash Burnedead, viewing him as a true friend. Conversely, he views Lance Crown with intense one-sided rivalry due to his good looks and popularity. He developed feelings for Lemon Irvine after she showed him kindness, though she ultimately rejected his confession. In combat, he fought against opponents such as Love Cute of Magia Lupus and Epidem of Innocent Zero to defend his companions.

Trivia

Dot's design and character concept were adapted from the protagonist of Hajime Komoto's pre-serialization one-shot manga Liberal Fuki Iin Yamada Taro, who was originally intended to be the main character of the series. His Summons power associated with his Ira Kreuz release is designated as Vulcanus, the god of explosions.
