Overview

Rayne Ames is a major supporting character in Mashle: Magic and Muscles. He is a third-year student and the Prefect of Adler House at Easton Magic Academy, as well as a Divine Visionary known as the Sword Cane. Having achieved the title of Divine Visionary at the youngest age in history, he also holds the high-ranking position of Director of the Bureau of Magic Tools. He is the older brother of Finn Ames and acts as a strict yet supportive upperclassman to Mash Burnedead.

Appearance

Rayne has short, two-tone hair split between black and blonde, along with yellow eyes and earrings. He wears a long-sleeved white collared shirt with a red necktie beneath a black robe. On his face, he bears facial magic lines—initially two, but later awakening a third mark, making him the youngest in history to do so.

Personality

Rayne is a serious, highly disciplined young man who values action over words. Though he avoids unnecessary socializing, he treats others with fairness and integrity. His cold demeanor masks deep care for those close to him, shaped by a harsh childhood that motivated him to create a peaceful world without discrimination. Contrasting his tough exterior, he harbors a passionate love for rabbits, keeping nine named rabbits in his quarters.

Abilities

Rayne commands the personal magic Partisan, which allows him to conjure and manipulate swords to inflict heavy physical damage without needing incantations. Upon awakening his third mark, he can use Summons: Ares to tap into the power of the war god within his wand. This exponentially boosts his magical output, allowing him to cast powerful advanced spells such as Black Partisan, which strikes foes with massive swords shrouded in black magic.

Background

After losing their parents at a young age, Rayne and his younger brother Finn Ames endured a difficult childhood being passed around between relatives. To protect Finn and eliminate social inequality, Rayne strove to become a Divine Visionary. He deliberately distanced himself from Finn to keep him out of danger while secretly supporting him financially. During the battle against Delisaster, Rayne finally acknowledged his brother's growth, and together they fought side by side to defeat the enemy.

Relationships

Rayne deeply treasures his younger brother, Finn Ames, whom he initially kept at a distance out of protective concern before ultimately accepting him as a battle partner. He also mentors Mash Burnedead at the request of Headmaster Wahlberg Baigan, recognizing Mash's resolve to change society despite his lack of magic. During the final conflicts, he engaged in a fierce battle against Delisaster.

Trivia

He carries a self-made healing handkerchief embroidered with a rabbit pattern and maintains frugal spending habits. Despite attempting to keep his fond preference for rabbits a secret from others, lost rabbit-themed items around the academy are routinely brought to him.
