Overview
Ginro is a character from Dr. STONE who initially serves as a gatekeeper for Ishigami Village alongside his older brother, Kinro. Following the arrival of Senku, he becomes an active member of the Kingdom of Science's combat and exploration teams. Although he is notoriously timid, frivolous, and prone to shirking hard labor or dangerous duties, Ginro possesses a hidden core of bravery. When his friends are in extreme danger, he consistently rises to the occasion, proving himself to be an indispensable ally despite his cowardly facade.
Appearance
Ginro is a young man with short blonde hair featuring side-swept bangs that cover one of his green eyes. He has a small, slight physical build and a high-pitched voice that closely resembles a girl's. Due to these features, he makes a remarkably convincing and cute crossdresser when disguised. As part of his duties as a village guard, he carries a spear as his primary equipment.
Personality
Ginro is inherently timid, opportunistic, and flighty, frequently attempting to escape arduous training or hazardous situations. He exhibits greedy and lecherous tendencies, often letting his wild imagination lead him to shirk responsibility onto others. Despite these disreputable traits, he is genuinely loyal to his companions. When pushed to the brink during life-threatening crises, he overcomes his intense cowardice to display remarkable courage and self-sacrifice.
Abilities
As a trained guard, Ginro possesses solid spear combat skills that allow him to contribute effectively to battle. He demonstrates high physical endurance, having operated hand-cranked generators and machines for long durations. He is an able swimmer, using underwater diving to evade petrification rays. Furthermore, his petite body and feminine voice give him a unique talent for stealth infiltration while crossdressing.
Background
Ginro was raised in Ishigami Village as a descendant of the astronauts who survived humanity's petrification. Initially blocking Senku's entry, he soon joined the Kingdom of Science, rescuing Chrome from a toxic sulfuric lake. On Treasure Island, he avoided a mass petrification light by diving underwater, subsequently disguising himself as a woman to infiltrate the enemy's inner palace where he discovered the leader's fate. After acquiring the warrior Matsukaze as his personal guard, he participated in the expeditions to North and South America, enduring severe injuries and petrification before being revived for the final missions.
Relationships
Ginro shares a strong bond with his older brother Kinro; though he constantly teases and relies on him, he refuses to abandon Kinro in times of danger. Within the Kingdom of Science, he maintains mutual trust with Senku, Chrome, and Kohaku despite their frequent exasperation at his behavior. Following the events on Treasure Island, the restored warrior Matsukaze swears absolute devotion to Ginro due to his resemblance to Matsukaze's former master.
Trivia
Ginro's name is derived from silver, element 47 on the periodic table. According to story writer Riichiro Inagaki, the character's design and behavior were conceived with the idea of bringing out the absolute scummiest traits from the performer of Sena Kobayakawa, the protagonist of his previous work.
