Overview

Nanami Ryuusui is a central character in Dr. STONE. The heir to the wealthy Nanami Conglomerate, he is an expert sailor and adventurer boasting outstanding maritime and navigational capabilities. Upon being revived by Ishigami Senku, he joins the Kingdom of Science as the captain of the ocean-going sailing vessel Perseus. Serving as one of the Five Wise Generals, Ryuusui leverages his boundless ambition and natural charisma to drive the restoration and expansion of human civilization in the Stone World.

Appearance

Ryuusui is a tall, heavily muscular young man with brownish-blonde hair, sanpaku-like eyes, unique anchor-shaped eyebrows with split tips, and a visible snaggletooth when smiling. He wears a prominent bicorne hat paired with a bright orange-red captain's coat over a shirt. Although he is not a primary combatant, he carries multiple swords strapped around his waist and abdomen.

Personality

Self-proclaimed as the most greedy person in the world, Ryuusui holds an unshakeable belief that desire is a force of good. Despite his arrogant demeanor, he is magnanimous, highly rational, and eager to see others shine alongside him. He adheres to a philosophy that leaders must enjoy life for others to follow them, often snapping his fingers while letting out a hearty laugh. He views everyone around him as inherently charming and never hesitates to work hard to achieve his desires.

Abilities

Ryuusui excels in seamanship without electronic equipment, alongside piloting aircraft and drones. He possesses advanced meteorological skills, accurately gauging temperature, humidity, and wind changes through his physical senses to forecast storms. His heightened intuition enables rapid risk assessment and danger detection. Additionally, he commands technical shipbuilding expertise—evidenced by his scale model directing the construction of the Perseus—and business acumen, successfully reintroducing currency to structure labor and trade.

Background

Fascinated by ships since childhood, Ryuusui built detailed vessel models and sailed the world as a middle school student. Though deemed a rebellious wild child by his wealthy family, he maintained consciousness throughout millennia of petrification. Revived by Ishigami Senku to navigate global expeditions, he introduced the concept of money to streamline resources and labor. He subsequently led the construction of the Perseus as its captain and played a vital role in advancing humanity's aerospace goals.

Relationships

He shares a strong mutual respect with Ishigami Senku, blending science and leadership to overcome major obstacles. He maintains absolute mutual trust with his personal butler and chef, Francois. Although his brilliant mathematician brother, Nanami Sai, initially feared his intense pushiness, the two eventually reconciled. Shishio Tsukasa, who originally opposed old-world financial systems, accepts Ryuusui's pragmatic use of currency as a tool to unite people.

Trivia

Within the Five Wise Generals of the Kingdom of Science, Ryuusui represents decisive judgment. He holds the record for being petrified the highest number of times in the story. Furthermore, he is the only character to make his anime debut in a dedicated special episode, quickly securing second place in the character popularity poll shortly after his introduction.
