Rudeus Greyrat

Overview

Rudeus Greyrat is the main protagonist of Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation. Originally a thirty-four-year-old Japanese shut-in who died in a traffic accident, he is reborn into a fantasy world with his memories intact. Regretting his wasted past, he vows to live his second life with all his might. Overcoming past traumas, he grows into a formidable mage and adventurer through relentless effort, earning moniker titles such as Rudy of the Quagmire.

Appearance

Rudeus possesses flaxen-blonde hair, green eyes, and a distinct beauty mark positioned under his left eye. He often wears his hair tied in a low ponytail and sports an ahoge. Standing around 175 centimeters tall upon reaching adulthood, he maintains a well-toned physique from constant training. He habitually wears a mouse-grey robe and has earned demon eyes in both eyes.

Personality

Mindful of his past failures, Rudeus acts respectfully, works diligently, and avoids taking things for granted. He harbors deep empathy toward outcasts and the weak, though his inner thoughts frequently reveal an unrepentant perverted side. Highly defensive of those he treasures, he can react with shocking intensity if his loved ones or personal beliefs are disrespected. Beneath his polite exterior, he remains fearful of rejection.

Abilities

Rudeus wields immense magic capacity and specializes in chantless casting, allowing him to instantaneously alter and combine magic spells. His signatures include the combination magic Quagmire and Deep Mist, along with high-output Stone Cannons and custom Electric spells. He utilizes two Demon Eyes: the Eye of Foresight in his right eye to perceive several seconds into the future, and the Eye of Clairvoyance in his left eye for long-distance vision. To compensate for his inability to coat himself in Touki, he operates the heavy Magic Armor in battle. He is also a fluent speaker of Human, Demon, Beast-God, and Fighting-God tongues, and crafts detailed figurines using earth magic.

Background

Born as the eldest son of Paul and Zenith Greyrat, Rudeus was tutored by Roxy Migurdia before teaching magic to his childhood friend Sylphiette. Later hired as a tutor for Eris Boreas Greyrat, he was swept away to the Demon Continent during the Fittoa Teleport Incident. Forming the party 'Dead End' alongside Ruijerd Superdia, he journeyed across continents to return home. Following Eris's departure, he traveled as an adventurer, eventually enrolling in the Ranoa University of Magic, reuniting with Sylphiette, and eventually aligning with Dragon God Orsted against the Man-God.

Relationships

He is the son of Paul and Zenith Greyrat, and the brother of Norn and Aisha. He revere his magic mentor Roxy Migurdia like a deity, eventually taking her as one of his wives along with his childhood friend Sylphiette and his former pupil Eris Boreas Greyrat. He maintains strong friendships with Ruijerd Superdia, Zanoba Shirone, and Cliff Grimoire, while serving under the Dragon God Orsted as his employer.

Trivia

His surname Greyrat relates to 'grey rat,' matching his personal preference for wearing mouse-grey robes. He founded a personal devotion termed 'Roxyism,' treating a stolen piece of Roxy's clothing as a sacred artifact. His earth-magic figure sculpting skills derived from his past life memories were praised as supreme craftsmanship by Zanoba.
