Ultraman Jack
Ultraman Jack is the titular protagonist of Kaette Kita Ultraman and the fourth member of the Ultra Brothers from Nebula M78's Land of Light. Deeply moved by the courage of Hideki Go, a young man who died protecting a child and a puppy from a monster attack, the Ultra warrior merged with him to defend Earth's peace and humanity's freedom. Originally called simply Ultraman in his debut show—and later referred to by fans and media as Shinman or Ultraman II—he was officially named Ultraman Jack in 1984. Following his service on Earth, he returned home to serve as an instructor at the Ultra Dojo and a chief officer in the Inter Galactic Defense Force.
Overview
Appearance
As a member of the Silver Tribe, Ultraman Jack features a silver and red body color scheme. While visually similar to the original Ultraman, Jack is distinguished by his silver neck, a triangular pattern around the waist, and pinstripe red borders outlining his red body patterns. His gloves and boots were silver during his original Earth series, though they have appeared red in later guest roles. In modern appearances, he is sometimes depicted wearing a Brothers Mantle cape.
Personality
Jack possesses a deeply determined and earnest personality. Throughout his battles on Earth, he faced personal doubt and physical struggle, growing into a mature and dependable warrior. Early in his tenure, his fighting approach could be reckless or overly reliant on brute force, but through rigorous training and harsh setbacks, he cultivated great endurance. Because his mind and physical state were deeply fused with those of his host Hideki Go, their emotions and injuries directly affected one another, reinforcing his relentless drive to fight for victory even against overwhelming odds.
Abilities
Jack is unique among many Ultra Warriors for transforming without a device, manifesting through Hideki Go's sheer willpower or in moments of mortal danger. In battle, he is a agile martial artist who employs light chops, spinning kicks like the Meteor Kick, and dynamic throws. He is famed as a weapon master capable of wielding the Ultra Bracelet—gifted by Ultraseven—which he transforms via mental focus into the Ultra Spark blade, spears, and defensive shields. His energy repertoire includes the Spacium Beam fired from a cross-arm pose, the high-output Cinerama Shot, the Dismembering Halo, and powerful Ultra Telekinesis capable of reversing tsunamis.
Background
Upon arriving to defend Earth, Jack witnessed Hideki Go sacrifice his life to protect a youth and a puppy. Moved by this selflessness, Jack merged with Go to restore his life and fight alongside him as part of the defense team MAT. Together, they defended Earth against reawakened kaiju and invading aliens, overcoming numerous tough engagements—frequently against two opponents at once. Over time, their minds and spirits completely united. After defeating Alien Nackle, Black King, and later Alien Bat alongside Zetton II, Jack departed Earth in his merged state to aid his homeworld against Alien Bat's invasion forces.
Relationships
Jack shares a uniquely absolute fusion with his human host, Hideki Go. As the fourth of the Ultra Brothers, he maintains a close bond with Zoffy, the original Ultraman, and Ultraseven. When Jack was captured by Alien Nackle, the original Ultraman and Ultraseven arrived to rescue him from execution. Ultraseven notably presented him with the versatile Ultra Bracelet during a critical battle against Bemstar. In later eras, Jack continues to support younger heroes such as Ultraman Mebius and Ultraman Zero, serving as a reliable senior warrior.
Trivia
Because the series was originally conceived as the return of the original Ultraman, Jack went without a distinct personal name throughout his original show's broadcast. The name 'Jack' was originally a candidate title for the series that eventually became Ultraman Taro, before being officially assigned to this hero years later in 1984. Across the Showa television era, Jack holds the record for fighting the highest number of consecutive one-versus-two battles, famously taking on paired threats such as Gudon and Twin Tail or Alien Nackle and Black King.
