Overview
Zoffy is a major character in the Ultra Series, debuting in the final episode of the original 1966 Ultraman. Hailing from the Land of Light in Nebula M78, he serves as the Captain of the Inter Galactic Defense Force, standing second in authority only to Father of Ultra. As the eldest of the Ultra Brothers, he is a reliable commander who issues orders to his younger brothers and aids them in battle. He made his first appearance arriving on Earth to revive and rescue Ultraman after his defeat by Zetton.
Appearance
Belonging to the Silver race of Ultras, Zoffy shares a body structure closely resembling Ultraman's. He is distinguished by six pairs of silver studs on his chest called Star Marks and three pairs of studs on his shoulders known as Ultra Brester. Red double lines run across his shoulders, forearms, thighs, abdomen, and back. Depending on the production suit, his eyes have been depicted as either white or yellow. He has also been shown wearing a red cape and donning the Andro Melos armor.
Personality
Zoffy is a serious, composed, and highly authoritative commander who commands deep respect from his subordinates and younger brothers. He holds a firm conviction that humans must secure peace on Earth through their own efforts, maintaining a balanced perspective while demonstrating deep empathy. Despite his stoic and demanding military role, he remains a passionate defender of justice who encourages his allies to never give up even against overwhelming odds.
Abilities
Zoffy commands immense fighting prowess, centered around his signature M87 Ray, widely regarded as the most powerful single beam attack among the Ultra Brothers due to its high thermal energy. To prevent catastrophic destruction, its output must be suppressed on Earth. His arsenal also features the Z Beam to paralyze opponents, Ultra Frost to freeze targets, Teleportation to traverse space and dimensions, and the Twinkle Way to open pathways for transferring allies across vast distances.
Background
Rising through the ranks of the Inter Galactic Defense Force, Zoffy was elevated to Captain following his successful mission to retrieve Ultraman from Earth. Over the centuries, he has taken the front lines to back up his younger brothers—including Ultraseven, Jack, Ace, and Taro—whenever formidable space monsters endangered the galaxy. He continues to command defense operations from the Land of Light while providing tactical guidance to newer generations of Ultra warriors.
Relationships
Zoffy is the eldest of the Ultra Brothers, serving as a respected big brother figure to Ultraseven, Ultraman Jack, Ultraman Ace, Ultraman Taro, and Ultraman Mebius. He acts as the trusted right-hand commander to Father of Ultra and Mother of Ultra. He also maintains a close bond of mutual trust with Ultraman Hikari, while serving as a senior authority figure who oversees the development of younger heroes such as Ultraman Zero.
Trivia
Designer Tohl Narita created Zoffy's distinct accents after being instructed during early planning to modify the original Ultraman design to create an older brother character. A famous suit mishap in Ultraman Taro, where his head caught fire during a fight against the monster Birdon, led to the affectionate fan nickname 'Mr. Fire Head.' The Star Marks on his chest represent supreme honors awarded for his combat achievements.
