Overview

Abuto is a supporting character in the manga and anime series Gintama. As the Vice Captain of the space pirate syndicate Harusame's 7th Division, this Yato clan member acts as the right-hand man to his division leader, Kamui.

Appearance

Abuto has grayish long hair styled with loose bangs around his face and carries a stubble beard. He wears a cape and carries a signature umbrella. After losing his left arm, he equips a mechanical prosthetic in its place.

Personality

Unlike many of his war-hungry Yato brethren, Abuto is pragmatic, calm, and strongly disapproves of internal conflict among his own kind. Though a pirate, he shows a softer, protective side toward younger people and frequently finds himself in the role of a long-suffering caretaker.

Abilities

As a member of the Yato clan, Abuto possesses superhuman strength and physical attributes. He wields the customary Yato umbrella in combat and demonstrates exceptional endurance even when his prosthetic left arm is damaged or destroyed.

Background

Abuto makes his first major appearance during the Yoshiwara in Flames arc, where he loses his left arm attempting to intervene in a battle between Kamui and Housen. He continues to serve alongside Kamui through major conflicts including the Shogun Assassination arc, the Rakuyou Decisive Battle arc, and the Silver Soul arc.

Relationships

He acts as the dependable second-in-command to Kamui, managing his division leader's unpredictable behavior. He fought against Shinpachi Shimura and Kagura, though he showed hesitation to kill them. He has also expressed a preference for cunning women such as Kada.

Trivia

Despite his aged appearance, Abuto is canonized as being 32 years old. He was originally intended to die during his debut arc before the author chose to keep him as Kamui's right-hand man. In the 3-Z Ginpachi-sensei spin-off series, he is depicted as a repeatedly held-back high school senior.
