Overview
Purah is a brilliant Sheikah researcher of ancient technology who appears in The Legend of Zelda series. As the elder sister of Impa, the former leader of Kakariko Village, she was appointed as a direct researcher for the Hyrule Royal Family in her youth. In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, she conducts research on the Sheikah Slate at the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab. Later, in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, she leads Lookout Landing, directing the search for Princess Zelda and investigating the cataclysms across Hyrule.
Appearance
Purah has white hair styled into a large ribbon-shaped bun with a red streak, red eyes, red eyeshadow, maro eyebrows, and slightly tanned skin. She wears round red-framed glasses with eyelash-like decorations, bare-shouldered Sheikah-themed clothing with a miniskirt and china buttons, black gloves, and goggles reminiscent of Shakouki-dogu on her head. In Breath of the Wild, due to an age-reversing experiment, she has the body of a six-year-old child wearing a backpack-like device with a recorder-like tool. In Tears of the Kingdom, after adjusting her age, she appears as an adult woman wearing red tights, high heels, and holding her recorder-like tool as a cane.
Personality
In contrast to her serious sister Impa, Purah is high-spirited, eccentric, and fiercely independent. She possesses an unbridled passion for research, often taking wild risks such as testing her own unproven inventions on herself. Highly self-confident, she openly praises her own beauty when shown her own photograph. She frequently strikes a lively pose while using her signature catchphrase, and displays a friendly, casual attitude toward those she trusts.
Abilities
As one of Hyrule's foremost scientific minds, Purah excels in restoring and upgrading ancient Sheikah technology, including the functionality of the Sheikah Slate and the Guidance Stones. She independently developed age-manipulation technology, designed the Purah Pad as a successor to ancient devices, and engineered the Surveyed Towers used to map the terrain of Hyrule.
Background
Before the Great Calamity a century ago, Purah served the Royal Family of Hyrule by excavating and researching ancient tech. When the Calamity struck, she helped transport the wounded Link to the Shrine of Resurrection before relocating to the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab. During her subsequent studies, an experiment transformed her into a child, though she continued assisting Link upon his awakening. She later successfully reversed her physical regression to adulthood and took charge of Lookout Landing to coordinate regional operations.
Relationships
Purah is the elder sister of Impa and the great-aunt of Paya. She shares a long-standing professional bond with her fellow researcher Robbie, while employing Symin as her assistant at the Hateno lab and Josha at Lookout Landing. She maintains a close collaborative relationship with Princess Zelda on ancient research, and acts as a trusted benefactor to Link throughout his journeys.
Trivia
Purah's name is derived from the word apple. Early concept designs originally gave her brown eyes similar to her family members Impa and Paya, but this was altered to red in the final release.
