Robbie

Overview

Robbie is a Sheikah researcher featured in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. A former scientist of the Hyrule Royal Ancient Lab, he serves as the head of the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab. He is a premier authority on Guardian technology and ancient weapons, providing Link with powerful gear and device enhancements throughout his journeys.

Appearance

Robbie features balding, long white hair, pointed ears, and wears goggles over his head along with pants. He carries a distinctive lantern-shaped mechanical box on his back. In depictions of his youth, his hair is styled with a small front bun, his goggles connect directly to his backpack via cables, and he wears an open-chested top paired with wide-legged hakama trousers.

Personality

Despite being over 120 years old, Robbie maintains an exceptionally high-energy, eccentric demeanor. He speaks in a lively manner laced with English phrases and frequently strikes dramatic poses like a rock musician. Passionate and determined, he remains optimistic as a researcher even in dire circumstances. He takes immense pride in his inventions and expresses visible dissatisfaction when his contributions are not directly reflected in their official names.

Abilities

Robbie excels in developing ancient weaponry and devices. He operates the Ancient Oven to manufacture specialized anti-Guardian equipment—including swords, shields, spears, greatswords, armor, bows, and arrows—from raw materials and rupees. He is also skilled at upgrading and restoring functionality to ancient terminal devices. In combat, he wields a massive mechanical Sheikah arm and utilizes devices mimicking the powers of the Divine Beasts.

Background

A survivor of the Great Calamity alongside Purah and Impa, Robbie relocated to the Akkala region to establish the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab, devoting decades to countering the Guardian threat. Upon Link's awakening, he supports the hero by crafting high-tier gear. He later collaborates with other researchers at Lookout Landing and the Hateno Ancient Tech Lab to enhance travel and detection tools. He is married to his lab assistant Jerrin, with whom he has a son named Granté.

Relationships

Robbie maintains a longstanding partnership with his colleague Purah, working seamlessly together despite her demanding nature. His wife, Jerrin, serves as his lab assistant, while his son, Granté, left home on Robbie's advice to explore the world. Robbie holds a deep affection for his automated crafting machine, the Ancient Oven, which he fondly nicknames 'Cherry'.

Trivia

Robbie's name originates from 'strawberry,' fitting the naming convention of Sheikah characters inspired by fruits. Similarly, his wife Jerrin's name derives from 'tangerine' and his son Granté's from 'pomegranate.' The unusual, modified speech pattern of the Ancient Oven was deliberately implemented after Jerrin previously felt jealous of Robbie's overly sweet interactions with the machine.
