Overview
Kuki Urie is a prominent character in Tokyo Ghoul:re. A top graduate of the CCG Academy Junior School, he serves as an initial squad leader of the Quinx Squad. Starting as a Second Class Ghoul Investigator, he advances to First Class and eventually Promotion to Associate Special Class. Driven by the death of his father, who lost his life fighting the One-Eyed Owl, Urie is consumed by a desire to gain achievements and earn a promotion to the prestigious S3 Squad once led by his father.
Appearance
Urie has short black hair and two distinct beauty marks under his left eye. His kakugan manifests in his left eye. When outside, he wears headless earphones. His mask design resembles black armor. His attire consists of a black or grey coat, black shirt, black sweater, long sleeves, black or brown pants, and black gloves.
Personality
Urie is quiet, blunt, and extremely ambitious. Although he maintains a polite demeanor, he harbors intense internal cynical and toxic thoughts, depicted within parentheses in text. Driven by pride and an obsessive desire for promotion, he initially acts self-centeredly and harbors strong rivalry toward Takeomi Kuroiwa. However, after experiencing personal tragedy and learning to rely on others, he matures into a deeply responsible leader who truly cares for his squad mates.
Abilities
Urie possesses a Koukaku-type kagune on his arm that forms armor with a claw-like tip, providing high offensive power but limited long-range capability. Through surgery, his frame level was increased to Frame 4. As his Ghoul conversion progresses, he adapts his kagune to form a large sword in his right hand and a shield in his left. He utilizes the Bikaku quinque Tsunagi (Plain) and later wields the SS-rate Bikaku quinque Ginkui, crafted from the kakuhou of Noro.
Background
After losing his father at a young age, Urie grew up carrying resentment toward Iwao Kuroiwa and his son Takeomi. In pursuit of rapid promotion, he repeatedly took independent actions, including during the Auction Mopping-up Operation. Following the death of his teammate Ginshi Shirazu during the Tsukiyama Operation, Urie assumed full leadership of the Quinx Squad. He later uncovered suspicious activities within the CCG led by Nimura Furuta, teaming up with Senior Investigator Iwao Kuroiwa to challenge the leadership before moving forward to protect his team.
Relationships
Urie initially felt jealous of his mentor Haise Sasaki, but later sought his guidance. He maintained a strong sense of rivalry toward his peer Takeomi Kuroiwa until learning the truth from Takeomi's father, Iwao Kuroiwa. Within the Quinx Squad, he was deeply impacted by the death of Ginshi Shirazu, developed complex romantic feelings toward Tooru Mutsuki, and forged a powerful mutual trust with Saiko Yonebayashi, who saved him during a critical moment.
Trivia
His personal hobby is oil painting. He displays exceptional analytical abilities, correctly deduction early in an investigation that the ghoul Torso was likely operating as a taxi driver.
