Yoshimura

Overview

Yoshimura Kuzen is a major supporting character in the manga series Tokyo Ghoul and its adaptations. He serves as the manager of Anteiku, a quiet cafe located in Tokyo's 20th Ward that secretly acts as a sanctuary for local ghouls. Despite his gentle, grandfatherly facade, he is an SSS-rated ghoul recognized by the Commission of Counter Ghoul (CCG) under the moniker of the Non-Killing Owl.

Appearance

Yoshimura presents as an elderly man with slicked-back white hair, a prominent high forehead, and red eyes that are usually narrowed or kept closed. He possesses an Ukaku type kagune.

Personality

Yoshimura exhibits a serene, patient, and deeply empathetic demeanor. Having turned away from a violent past, he values peace and seeks to protect both humans and ghouls without causing unnecessary loss of life. He takes on a compassionate, mentoring role toward vulnerable individuals, encouraging coexistence and demonstrating restraint even when confronting deadly adversaries.

Abilities

As an SSS-rated ghoul, Yoshimura possesses immense combat strength and utilizes an Ukaku kagune. Having engaged in cannibalism among ghouls in his past, he commands extraordinary battle capabilities that allow him to overpower multiple Special Class Investigators simultaneously.

Background

In his youth, Yoshimura engaged in widespread ghoul cannibalism before working as a cleaner for the secretive organization V. His life changed after falling in love with a human woman named Ukina, with whom he fathered a rare half-ghoul daughter, Eto. After V discovered Ukina's secret notes containing sensitive intel, she was killed, forcing Yoshimura to entrust his infant child to Noroi in the 24th Ward and break away from the organization. He later founded Anteiku to provide shelter and alternative sustenance to helpless ghouls, eventually taking Ken Kaneki under his wing.

Relationships

He was married to Ukina, a human journalist, and is the biological father of the half-ghoul Eto (Sen Takatsuki). He acts as a father figure and mentor to Ken Kaneki after guiding him into the ghoul community. Additionally, he rescued Renji Yomo after the latter suffered a defeat against the formidable investigator Kishou Arima.

Trivia

Because of his steadfast refusal to take the lives of CCG investigators during battles, he earned the distinctive title of the Non-Killing Owl among the authorities.
