Overview
Shou Tucker is a State Alchemist featured in Fullmetal Alchemist. Known by the official title of the Sewing-Life Alchemist, he is recognized as an authority on chimera research and biological transmutation.
Appearance
He is a somewhat small, thin man with eyeglasses and a gentle, unassuming facial expression. As a certified State Alchemist, he carries a silver pocket watch.
Personality
Surface-level, he appears quiet, modest, and soft-spoken. In reality, he is obsessed with maintaining his status and funding as a State Alchemist. Desperate to pass his yearly assessments, he shows a cold disregard for human life and ethics by sacrificing his own family. He rationalizes his horrific acts as pure scientific pursuit, demonstrating a complete lack of remorse or moral compass.
Abilities
He specializes in biological transmutation, possessing the skill to combine different living creatures into talking chimeras using established formulas. He also accumulated a valuable collection of rare research books and documents in his home laboratory.
Background
He gained his initial State Alchemist license by secretly transmuting his wife into a chimera that could speak human words. Two years later, facing the revocation of his license due to a lack of results, he fused his young daughter Nina Tucker and their pet dog Alexander into another talking chimera. Edward Elric uncovered his gruesome secret, leading to Tucker losing his status and being placed under house arrest, where he was soon killed by Scar.
Relationships
He used his daughter Nina Tucker and pet dog Alexander as test subjects, fusing them into a chimera. Roy Mustang introduced him to Edward Elric and Alphonse Elric as a biological alchemy specialist; while he initially hosted the brothers in his home library, they turned on him with intense fury after realizing what he had done. Ultimately, Scar targeted and killed him.
Trivia
On the back cover illustrations of the manga volumes, he is uniquely depicted descending into hell rather than ascending to heaven like other deceased characters. His response to Edward Elric upon having his secret exposed has also become a famous internet meme.
