Terui Ryuu

Overview

Terui Ryuu is a major character in Kamen Rider W and its franchise, serving as the elite Superintendent and head of the Fuuto Police Department's Paranormal Crime Investigation Division. As the wearer of the AccelDriver, he transforms into Kamen Rider Accel. Initially driven by an intense desire for revenge against the Dopant responsible for the murder of his family, he operates as a lone wolf. Over time, working alongside Hidari Shoutarou and Philip, he learns to move past his hatred and dedicates himself to protecting the citizens of Fuuto.

Appearance

Terui Ryuu is featured with short brown hair with side-swept bangs and black eyes. His signature outfit includes a distinctive red leather motorcycle jacket worn over a black shirt, paired with leather pants and short boots. He constantly wears a pendant necklace, which was a gift from his late younger sister. Outside of his transformed state, he carries and wields the heavy Engine Blade.

Personality

Ryuu is a serious, hardboiled, and highly disciplined individual who approaches his duties with intense focus. He initially displays a rigid, self-centered attitude that rejects unnecessary questioning or sympathy from others. Beneath his stoic and somewhat solitary exterior lies a deeply compassionate defender of life. Despite his intimidating aura, he is exceedingly bashful when dealing with romantic situations or physical affection from women. He is surprisingly adept at domestic tasks, including cooking and brewing exceptional coffee.

Abilities

By utilizing the AccelDriver along with the Accel Memory, Ryuu transforms into Kamen Rider Accel. He possesses extraordinary endurance and pain tolerance, frequently surviving near-fatal injuries and returning to battle. Even without transforming, he demonstrates exceptional martial arts capabilities and enough raw strength to swing the massive Engine Blade. His capabilities are expanded through specialized memories, enabling high-speed combat forms such as Accel Trial, which allows him to execute rapid combination attacks within strict time limits.

Background

Following in the footsteps of his police officer father, Ryuu achieved rapid promotion to Superintendent. His life was shattered when the Weather Dopant, Isaka Shinkurou, murdered his entire family. Driven by revenge, he established the Paranormal Crime Investigation Division at the Fuuto Police Department and received his transformation gear from Shroud. Though he initially detested Fuuto, his encounters with the Narumi Detective Agency helped him conquer his hatred, ultimately defeating his family's killer and fully committing to his duty as a protector of the city.

Relationships

He eventually marries Akiko Narumi, with whom he has a daughter named Haruna, though he habitually continues to address her as Chief. Though initially at odds with Hidari Shoutarou and Philip, he develops a deep mutual respect and partnership with them. His immediate subordinates in the police division are Hanono Mikio and Makura Shun. He harbored intense hatred toward Isaka Shinkurou until learning to let go of his vengeance, and he chose to forgive Shroud after recognizing the truth behind her actions.

Trivia

Known for his stubborn refusal to fall in battle, Ryuu gained a fan reputation for breaking death flags due to his repeated miraculous recoveries. He continues to appear prominently in sequels like Fuuto Tantei as well as crossover specials with police characters from other Kamen Rider entries. In special side media, his culinary skills are showcased in comedic fashion, such as using his heavy Engine Blade to prepare ingredients for themed dishes.
